Syracuse Basketball: 5-star Canadian target is ready for top U.S. players
By Neil Adler
Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Syracuse basketball 2023 target and elite Canadian wing Elijah Fisher hasn’t gotten to play all that much over the past year, he says in a recent blog post for SI All-American.
The 6-foot-7 Fisher has said that he believes he’s the No. 1 overall prospect in his class, whether that be in Canada or in the United States. And he’s ready to prove it on the court.
Fisher noted his participation in a training camp for Canada’s under-19 national team, and how that preparation will help him fare well when his AAU squad goes up against top-flight U.S. players on the Adidas circuit in July.
He wrote, “I know that this training camp will get me ready for that level of competition, so next month I’ll be able to just get out there and kill!”
Fisher, a sophomore at the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, suits up in AAU events for Grassroots Elite Canada, which is also based in Toronto.
Syracuse basketball 2023 prospect Elijah Fisher is honing his craft.
Fisher says that he’s added muscle mass and strength, going from 185 pounds to 215 pounds. He has improved the accuracy of his jump shot, “and I’m able to shoot off the dribble easier now too.”
Not all of the recruiting services rank Fisher, because he hails from Canada. But the ones that do universally deem him a top-10 overall player in his class.
In the recently updated rankings on Rivals.com, Fisher fell slightly to No. 7. Both the 247Sports Composite and 247Sports have him at No. 4 overall, as well as the No. 1 shooting guard.
The Orange offered Fisher last summer, and he holds numerous other high-major offers. They include from 2021 national champion Baylor, blue-blood Kansas, Florida State, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Memphis, Seton Hall, West Virginia and Southern California. Kentucky has also reportedly shown interest in Fisher.
Over the years, Syracuse basketball has recruited with success in Canada, and Fisher has spoken positively about the ‘Cuse program. But with college coaches now able to directly contact 2023 prospects, I’m sure that Fisher’s offer list is going to greatly expand.
In his recent blog post, he didn’t get into a whole lot of specifics about his recruiting process. Fisher did say that he’s looking to build up solid relationships with various coaches and teams, and that he may think about setting up some visits at some point.
Hopefully, one of the best players in 2023 will decide to make a trip to the Hill.
