A lot of Syracuse basketball fanatics, myself included, are super high on 2022 four-star combo guard Chance Westry. In fact, many Orange fans want the 6-foot-5 Westry to commit to the ‘Cuse more than any other player in this cycle, based on comments that I’ve perused in recent months on social media and in chat rooms.

Syracuse basketball coaches got in early on with Westry, offering him a scholarship nearly two years ago. Last year, there was certainly some buzz between the Orange and Westry, according to national analysts and other recruiting insiders.

However, there is a contingent of ‘Cuse fans that now believes such buzz has faded. I understand this line of thinking. At the same time, Westry hasn’t come out with any sort of list of finalists, so to opine that Syracuse basketball is out of the running for him is, in my opinion, a bit of an overstatement.

Westry has spoken positively about the Orange program in past interviews. The junior recently left the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif., according to media reports, and moved back to Pennsylvania, where he is a native of Harrisburg.

Let’s see if Syracuse basketball four-star target Chance Westry makes a trip to Central New York.

Westry is a consensus top-55 prospect in the 2022 cycle, and several recruiting services place him in the top-30 nationally. He holds a boatload of high-major offers.

According to recruiting guru Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, Westry is on an official visit to Southeastern Conference member Auburn. Westry also recently made an official visit to Nebraska out of the Big Ten Conference.

As we noted in a column, per a tweet from Tipton Edits, Westry recently said that the eight teams recruiting him the hardest are the ‘Cuse, LSU, Nebraska, Auburn, Maryland, Florida State, Marquette and Connecticut.

It wouldn’t surprise me if his five NCAA-allowed official visits come from within these eight schools. There’s no guarantee of this, particularly in the sometimes unpredictable recruiting arena, but it’s an understandable assumption to have.

Naturally, the big question that myself and many other Syracuse basketball fans are eager to get answered is whether Westry will elect to travel to the Orange for an official visit.

If he does, that’s an encouraging sign. If Westry doesn’t, well, perhaps the ‘Cuse won’t end up being his future collegiate destination.
