Syracuse basketball continues to pursue a range of elite talents in the 2022 class, and at the top of the list for me personally is four-star combo guard Chance Westry.

I’m not alone in this line of thinking. I read comments from fellow Orange fans on social media and in chat rooms all the time that speak to the hope that the ‘Cuse will ultimately land the 6-foot-5 Westry, who is a consensus top-55 prospect in the 2022 cycle.

Syracuse basketball coaches have courted Westry for a long while now, as they offered him a scholarship back in July of 2019. And Westry has spoken positively about the Orange program on more than one occasion.

However, competition for him is fierce. He recently landed offers from Big East Conference teams Connecticut and Creighton. Other prior offers include from Michigan, Virginia, Louisville, Memphis, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Miami, Florida, Maryland, Southern California, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Providence, St. John’s, VCU, Georgia and Temple.

This is just my gut feeling, but I think that the ‘Cuse remains in a solid position to potentially land Westry. According to recent media reports, Westry has left the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, Calif., and moved back to Pennsylvania, where he is a native of Harrisburg.

Syracuse basketball has tons of foes to beat out for four-star Chance Westry.

A recent tweet from Tipton Edits may shine a little light on Westry’s recruiting process. The tweet said that eight squads are recruiting Westry the hardest, and they are the Orange, LSU, Nebraska, Auburn, Maryland, Florida State, Marquette and UConn.

I’m not in any way saying that these eight teams are his finalists. He could receive other offers in the near future from additional high-major groups. Let’s also wait to see where Westry elects to go for official visits.

That being said, if the above-mentioned teams are some of the primary competitors for Westry, I like the Orange’s chances here. Syracuse basketball has had some buzz here and there for Westry. The same goes for Maryland.

Auburn and LSU are two of the better squads in the Southeastern Conference and recruit well. Big East teams Connecticut and Marquette are worrisome, particularly the Huskies.

Nebraska, like Maryland, is out of the rugged Big Ten Conference. Fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Florida State is a formidable adversary. The Seminoles are recruiting at a high level, and FSU has been successful of late in ACC competition as well as the Big Dance.

You never know how this recruiting stuff will go. The ‘Cuse has been involved with Westry for quite some time. But Syracuse basketball fans have had their hearts broken before.

Westry’s recruiting process should be a fun one moving forward.
