Syracuse basketball has offered scholarships to a half-dozen prospects in the 2023 class, and one of those high-school players who has flown a bit under the radar to date is talented wing Gavin Griffiths.

Multiple 2023 targets for the Orange are ranked in the top-50 nationally, whereas the 6-foot-7 Griffiths is not. That is going to change in the near future, however.

For one, Griffiths recently caught the eye of a national recruiting analyst when the 2023 prospect performed well at the Hoop Group’s Southern Jam Fest in Hampton, Va.

Griffiths, a sophomore who attends the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn., suited up at this recent AAU event in Virginia for the Boston-based Expressions Elite Basketball.

Rivals.com national analyst Jamie Shaw wrote an article about some of his stand-outs at the Southern Jam Fest, and Griffiths represented one of them.

"Shaw said, in part, about the Orange target, “Some people just know how to play basketball, and Griffiths falls into this category. Whether it be how he drifts into his passers eyesight with perfect balance or how he whips passes around to open players, or cutters on his team, Griffiths goes about his business, making high level plays all over the floor.”"

Syracuse basketball got in early with 2023 wing Gavin Griffiths.

The ‘Cuse coaching staff offered a scholarship to Griffiths last October. Per a review of various recruiting services, he holds additional offers from Massachusetts and Siena.

As Griffiths shines in AAU competitions and for his prep-school team, many more offers should arrive for him. Given his location in Connecticut, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if former Big East Conference rival UConn ends up offering Griffiths.

Recruiting Web sites will likely update their national rankings for the 2023 class at some point soon, and I fully expect Griffiths to check in as a four-star, top-100 prospect in this cycle. We’ll of course continue to monitor his recruiting process as it carries onward.

For context, the other five players in the 2023 class whom Syracuse basketball has offered are five-star wing Elijah Fisher with the Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Ontario, four-star power forward G.G. Jackson from Ridge View High School in Columbia, S.C., four-star point guard Aden Holloway out of the Covenant Day School in Matthews, N.C., four-star wing Matas Buzelis at the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., and guard Blue Cain from Knoxville Catholic High School in Knoxville, Tenn.
