Syracuse Basketball: UConn courting another Orange 2022 four-star target
By Neil Adler
Former Big East Conference rival Connecticut has gotten into the mix of late with numerous Syracuse basketball targets in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
The latest development is that the Huskies have offered a scholarship to four-star wing Ty Rodgers, an immensely talented player in the 2022 class who also holds an offer from the Orange.
The 6-foot-6 Rodgers disclosed his offer from UConn via his Twitter page. Other recent offers to him include from Big Ten Conference members Minnesota and Purdue.
Rodgers is a junior at Grand Blanc Community High School in Grand Blanc, Mich. He recently helped guide Grand Blanc Community High School to a state championship and was named the AP Division 1 Player of the Year in Michigan for his stellar junior term.
When ESPN recently updated its national ratings for the 2022 cycle, Rodgers checked in at No. 35 overall. He is a top-80 prospect nationally, according to the majority of recruiting services.
We recently detailed how Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim is among a handful of high-major head coaches who stay in consistent contact with Rodgers, per an article from 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi.
While Rodgers has spoken highly of the Orange program on numerous occasions, he holds a flood of impressive offers, from other teams such as Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Houston, Marquette, Missouri, Rhode Island, Florida State, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Temple.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that when Rodgers starts mapping out some official visits in the near future, he decides to make a trip to the Hill.
Connecticut is knocking on the door of various Syracuse basketball 2022 prospects.
Getting back to the Huskies, they are definitely being assertive in their own recruitment of top-flight 2022 players, and a bunch of these prospects have ‘Cuse offers as well.
Three-star point guard Quadir Copeland recently said via Twitter that UConn has offered him. Orange coaches have been involved with this tremendously talented player dating back to late last year.
Copeland is transferring from the Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for his senior year.
According to Stockrisers.com founder Jake Weingarten, Connecticut also recently offered four-star combo guard Chance Westry, whom the ‘Cuse has been recruiting for a long time now.
The Huskies have a scholarship offer out there to four-star power forward Kyle Filipowski, an excellent big man who only recently picked up an offer from Syracuse basketball.
Filipowski, a junior at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Mass., plans to take an official visit to Central New York next month.
Others in the 2022 class with both UConn and ‘Cuse offers include five-star combo guard Zion Cruz at The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J., five-star forward Jarace Walker, who attends the IMG Academy, and four-star center Donovan Clingan from Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn.
Clingan recently unveiled his top eight on Twitter. The Orange and the Huskies each made the cut.
