Syracuse basketball target Ty Rodgers, a 2022 four-star prospect, is one of the top wings in this cycle. That’s why the bevy of Orange fanatics out there, myself included, are hopeful that the ‘Cuse will remain in contention for his services as his recruitment continues to move forward.

The Orange did recently pick up a verbal commitment from fellow 2022 four-star wing Kamari Lands, who is a junior at Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif.

However, media reports have indicated that the 6-foot-8 Lands can suit up at small forward, shooting guard and point guard. To that end, the 6-foot-6 Rodgers recently told 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi in part, “I can play many positions and I’m happy to do whatever coaches want me to do.”

So while there is positional overlap between Rodgers and Lands, I’d be happy to see them both don a ‘Cuse uniform down the road. Rodgers is a junior at Grand Blanc Community High School in Grand Blanc, Mich.

Recently, Rodgers helped lead Grand Blanc Community High School to a state championship and was named the AP Division 1 Player of the Year in Michigan.

Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim stays in touch with stellar wing Ty Rodgers.

In the 2022 cycle, Rodgers is ranked No. 35 overall by ESPN, and he is also rated in the top-80 nationally by the majority of recruiting services.

Rodgers said in the 247Sports article that head coaches at the ‘Cuse, Houston, Michigan, Purdue and Minnesota are among those who keep in consistent communication with the 2022 star.

To this point, Rodgers hasn’t come up with any sort of list of finalists, and I haven’t seen any predictions for him from analysts or other recruiting insiders.

I do think that Michigan will prove tough to beat, given how the Wolverines have fared on the recruiting trail of late. Rodgers holds an abundance of high-major offers, including from Syracuse basketball, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Houston, Marquette, Missouri, Rhode Island, Florida State, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Temple.

Regarding the Orange, Rodgers said to Bossi, “Every once in a while, they bring up the guys that have gone there from Michigan. Jim Boeheim has been a great guy, I’ve liked talking to him.”

Since regular recruiting initiatives are resuming in the near future for all Division 1 sports, I would imagine that Rodgers will set up some official visits. Hopefully, one of those trips is to the Hill.

Ever since the ‘Cuse offered Rodgers, I’ve been really high on him. He’s a tremendous talent and a nice young man, according to interviews I’ve read. Syracuse basketball would be lucky to hear its name called for Rodgers.
