Former Syracuse basketball star Eric Devendorf wants 2022 four-star wing Ty Rodgers to ultimately choose the ‘Cuse.
In a fun tweet, Devendorf responded to Rodgers himself tweeting that he had landed a new scholarship offer from Big Ten Conference member Minnesota. Devendorf tweeted in part, “you know what time it is” and included some Orange emojis.
This is great stuff. I’m a huge Devendorf fan, in full disclosure, and I’m also really high on the 6-foot-6 Rodgers, who is a junior at Grand Blanc Community High School in Grand Blanc, Mich.
Rodgers is one of the best small forwards in his class. He’s a top-80 overall prospect in the 2022 cycle, according to the bevy of recruiting services. In ESPN’s recently updated national rankings for this class, Rodgers checked in at No. 35.
I have to admit that I’m a little unclear about whether Rodgers potentially picking Syracuse basketball at this juncture is even realistic.
That’s because the Orange recently secured a commitment from fellow 2022 four-star wing Kamari Lands, who is a junior at Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif.
Lands is described by most recruiting Web sites as a small forward, although media reports have indicated that he can also suit up at shooting guard and point guard.
So there is positional overlap among Rodgers and Lands, but whether that knocks the ‘Cuse out of the equation for Rodgers remains to be seen, at least for the time being.
The offer list for Syracuse basketball 2022 four-star prospect Ty Rodgers is expanding.
On his Twitter page, Rodgers recently disclosed new offers from Big Ten teams Minnesota and Purdue. He holds more than a dozen high-major offers, from squads such as Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Houston, Marquette, Missouri, Rhode Island, Florida State, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Temple.
To date, I haven’t seen any predictions from analysts or other recruiting insiders regarding Rodgers, but given where he plays high-school ball, I would imagine that Big Ten teams have some sort of advantage.
For me, I think that Michigan is the group to beat. The Wolverines have done quite well on the recruiting trail of late, and I’ve read articles that speak to Michigan prioritizing Rodgers in this class.
Rodgers recently was named the AP Division 1 Player of Year in Michigan. He helped guide Grand Blanc Community High School to a state championship and averaged 17.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per contest during his junior stanza, according to a piece by Brendan Savage of The Flint Journal.
In the past, Rodgers has spoken positively about the Orange and has also said that he was in consistent communication with the ‘Cuse coaching staff.
Whether that is the case now, given Lands’ verbal commitment to Syracuse basketball, is something that we’ll definitely have to monitor.
