Based on recent interviews, it seems that Syracuse basketball is prioritizing 2022 four-star wing Ty Rodgers.
Syracuse basketball saw 2022 four-star shooting guard Roddy Gayle Jr. opt for Ohio State on Friday night, but, no worries, the Orange appears in hot pursuit of Ty Rodgers, a 2022 four-star wing.
The 6-foot-6 Rodgers, a junior small forward who attends Grand Blanc Community High School in Grand Blanc, Mich., recently conducted a Q&A interview with recruiting analyst Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com.
Here’s the latest on Rodgers’ recruitment, based on his talk with Weingarten as well as other articles that I’ve read on the talented 2022 player.
Rodgers presently holds 11 scholarship offers, and they are from the ‘Cuse, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Houston, Marquette, Missouri, Rhode Island, Florida State and, most recently, Temple.
Rodgers says he hears the most from “Syracuse, Michigan, Houston, Marquette, Rhode Island, Ohio State, Missouri, and even though they haven’t offered yet, Vanderbilt.”
In addition to Temple, newer teams to express interest in Rodgers are Louisville, South Carolina, Texas and Texas Tech, he told Weingarten.
Syracuse basketball is ‘heavily’ recruiting 2022 four-star wing Ty Rodgers, he says.
When asked by Weingarten which head coaches he talks with the most, Rodgers said, “I’ve talked to Howard and Boeheim the most out of all the schools that are recruiting me as well. And they think I can come in right away and have a major impact.”
The Howard which Rodgers refers to, by the way, is Juwan Howard, who is the head coach at Michigan. Howard has absolutely crushed things on the recruiting trail of late, and I definitely think that the Wolverines are among the top competition for the Orange as it relates to landing Rodgers.
Rodgers, who says he put on 20 pounds during the off-season, recently improved 15 positions to No. 74 overall within the 2022 class, per the most recent rankings from 247Sports. Of all the main recruiting services, ESPN rates him the highest, at No. 41 nationally.
Given that current junior shooting guard Buddy Boeheim and junior small forward Alan Griffin may have exhausted their eligibility by the time that 2022 prospects enter college, it makes sense for Syracuse basketball coaches to focus attention on stellar wing players in that cycle, such as Rodgers and four-star Justin Taylor out of the St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va.
