Syracuse basketball may strike out with Roddy Gayle Jr., so another stellar 2022 option is four-star wing Ty Rodgers.

Syracuse basketball high-priority 2022 target Roddy Gayle Jr. is announcing in a few days, and it doesn’t look so good for the Orange, so the ‘Cuse coaching staff remains assertive in its push for other prospects in this class, including four-star wing Ty Rodgers.

The 6-foot-6 Rodgers, a junior at Grand Blanc Community High School in Grand Blanc, Mich., recently saw his national ranking soar in the latest 247Sports player ratings for the 2022 cycle. Rodgers climbed 15 positions to No. 74 overall.

We wrote about Rodgers not too long ago, detailing that at present he holds 10 scholarship offers, from Syracuse basketball, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland, Houston, Marquette, Missouri, Rhode Island and fellow Atlantic Coast Conference crew Florida State.

Mike Thomas, the head coach at Grand Blanc Community High School, has a ton of high praise for Rodgers. Thomas told 247Sports analyst Brian Snow, “Ty is just special. He is someone who is not from Grand Blanc, but from the moment he got here he has been a leader and made it his hometown. It takes someone special to embrace being the leader and getting kids to follow like he has.”

Thomas added about Rodgers, “He is just beginning to blossom as a player. Ty is only 16 years old. He is going to have a bigger leadership role for us this year because we lost some key players to graduation. I think he has the leadership ability and the skill to help us win a state title.”

Syracuse basketball is aggressively pursuing 2022 four-star wing Ty Rodgers.

Rodgers, described as a small forward by most recruiting services, is ranked as high as No. 41 nationally by ESPN.com, No. 50 by the 247Sports Composite, No. 71 by Prep Hoops and No. 75 by Rivals.com.

Moreover, some of the main recruiting Web sites arrange Rodgers as a top-15 small forward across the country in the 2022 class, as well as a top-three prospect in the state of Michigan.

"As far as Rodgers’ recruitment is concerned at this juncture, his head coach Thomas said, “I would say that head coaches at Houston, Syracuse, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Missouri are all really recruiting him hard. There are others, but those five schools are definitely making it clear that they really want him.”"
