Syracuse Basketball: Freshman Kadary Richmond is a ‘really good fit’
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim and journalists are raving about freshman Kadary Richmond.
Syracuse basketball has an intriguing group of freshmen on its 2020-21 roster, a line-up that features 13 scholarship players, and head coach Jim Boeheim and industry observers are heaping praise on promising freshman Kadary Richmond.
Boeheim recently said that the 6-foot-5 Richmond is perhaps the team’s most-impressive newbie in its 2020 class, calling him a “really good point guard.” Interestingly enough, Richmond’s bio on cuse.com lists him as a forward, although he can also suit up at both point guard and shooting guard, too. Talk about a versatile guy!
That flexibility should enable Richmond to hopefully gain a decent amount of minutes in Boeheim’s rotation in the upcoming campaign, and it will prove intriguing to see where Richmond earns the most run on the court, position-wise.
At forward, Syracuse basketball is fairly deep in 2020-21, particularly with Illinois transfer Alan Griffin, a junior, receiving a waiver from the NCAA for immediate eligibility.
So Richmond, who hails from Brooklyn, N.Y., and attended the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., prior to arriving on the Hill, could certainly land court action by spelling starting point guard Joe Girard III, a sophomore, or shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, a junior.
Syracuse basketball current freshman Kadary Richmond is deemed a strong fit with the Orange, per a national writer.
Dan McDonald with Rivals.com recently penned a column in which he discussed five incoming freshmen to keep an eye on in 2020-21, and Richmond is featured in this article.
"Here’s what McDonald said about Richmond in his write-up. “Kadary Richmond picking Syracuse is another really good fit for both sides. At 6-foot-5, his length and athleticism will make him tough in the front of Syracuse’s 2-3 zone, but it also allows Jim Boeheim to slide him to the back row of the zone. Offensively, his quick first step getting to the basket and his overall ability to score should help him break into the Orange’s rotation this year.”"
Additionally, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein recently had Richmond among his 15 under-the-radar freshmen for the Atlantic Coast Conference, along with John Bol Ajak, a redshirt freshman center for the ‘Cuse.
As a member of the 2020 cycle, Richmond proved a consensus top-100 prospect by the main recruiting services. The 247Sports Composite and 247Sports itself both put Richmond at No. 84 nationally, as well as a top-20 small forward and the No. 2 player in the state of New Hampshire.
Rivals.com rated Richmond at No. 85 overall and a top-20 shooting guard, while ESPN.com placed him at No. 91 across the country and a top-20 shooting guard as well. Richmond should have a stellar career in Central New York.
