Syracuse Football: Chandler Jones closing in on huge career milestone
By Neil Adler
Former Syracuse football player Chandler Jones is nearing 100 career sacks in the NFL, a tremendous accomplishment.
As his Arizona Cardinals prepare to travel to the New York Jets this coming Sunday afternoon, former Syracuse football star Chandler Jones is inching closer to a wonderful achievement in his National Football League tenure.
Currently, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Jones possesses 97 career sacks as he suits up in his ninth NFL campaign. Per this article by Geoff Herbert of Syracuse.com, should Jones record at least three more sacks in the present stanza and attain 100 for his career, the 30-year-old outside linebacker could become one of the 10-fastest pro guys to get to the century mark.
"According to Herbert, “Jones’ 97 sacks are the most in the league since 2012, his rookie season. He and the Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt, with 98 career sacks, would be the 35th and 36th players to record 100 sacks since the NFL began keeping track of the stat in 1982.”"
Former Syracuse football star Chandler Jones will soon reach 100 career sacks in the NFL.
Over the summer, Jones checked in at No. 15 on the annual list of the NFL’s top-100 players, a ranking that we actually think is a tad low.
In May, we detailed how Jones had earned his degree in human development and family science from Syracuse University, a beautiful feat.
The Cardinals acquired Jones from the New England Patriots in March of 2016. Per his bio on Arizona’s Web site, he has gotten selected for the Pro Bowl on three occasions and is also a two-time, first-team All-Pro.
Jones, who won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in February of 2015 and competed for the Orange from 2009-11, got named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 48-member selection committee to the 2010-19 All-Decade Team in April of this year.
According to the Cardinals, “Just five players in NFL history had more sacks in their first eight seasons than Jones.” Congratulations, Chandler, on an amazing pro career that is far from over!
