Syracuse football 2021 commit Duce Chestnut is no longer a four-star prospect in the newly published 247Sports Composite ratings.

When Syracuse football got a commitment from elite cornerback Duce Chestnut about a month ago, it marked the first four-star pledge for the Orange in its 2021 class.

Now, as the latest 247Sports Composite rankings are released, Chestnut has fallen from a four-star to a three-star prospect in those ratings, although he remains a four-star player on Rivals.com.

At the time of his commitment to the ‘Cuse in the beginning of August, we reported that the 247Sports Composite placed the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Chestnut as the No. 325 overall prospect across the country in his class, as well as the No. 23 cornerback and the No. 6 player in the state of New Jersey.

In the new 247Sports Composite rankings, Chestnut is the No. 455 prospect, the No. 32 cornerback and the No. 7 player in New Jersey. Chestnut is a rising senior at Camden High School in Camden, N.J.

Last month, Rivals.com had him at No. 137 overall in the 2021 recruiting cycle, No. 9 at cornerback and No. 4 in New Jersey.

Today, Chestnut’s bio on Rivals.com doesn’t have him included in the top-250 prospects nationally in this class, and he’s No. 26 at cornerback as well as No. 7 in New Jersey. As we noted earlier, though, Chestnut is still a four-star player per Rivals.com.

Okay, so we’ve provided this information on his most-recent ratings from the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com. However, while rankings from recruiting services are useful, and we frequently cite them in our stories, they don’t take away from Chestnut’s skills and talents.

He will prove a tremendous player on the Hill. Three stars, four stars – whatever. This guy can flat-out play. Chestnut had a slew of offers from high-quality programs, and his final five consisted of the Orange, Michigan State, Louisville, Miami and Rutgers.

In the day or two before his commitment announcement, nearly a dozen analysts on the 247Sports Web site and Rivals.com correctly projected that Chestnut would select Syracuse football.
