Syracuse lacrosse has snagged an attackman and a defender from Furman.
Some unfortunate pain at Furman University has resulted in a Syracuse lacrosse gain – or gains, for that matter.
In the span of a mere few days, the Orange has picked up a pair of Furman transfers in Cole Horan and Brett Tenaglia, according to reports from Syracuse.com as well as tweets from ESPN’s Chris Jastrzembski.
The ‘Cuse is landing an attackman in Tenaglia, as well as a defenseman in Horan.
The 5-foot-8 Tenaglia is a rising sophomore who attended New Fairfield High School in New Fairfield, Conn., where he helped the team capture two state championships, per his bio on the Furman athletics department Web site.
Horan, meanwhile, is a 5-foot-10 rising senior out of Floral Park Memorial High School in Floral Park, N.Y., who amounted to a two-time All-County and All-America nominee at Floral Park Memorial, says his bio.
Furman, whose campus is in Greenville, S.C., announced in mid-May that as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic, it would cut senior-level administrator salaries, implement furloughs and budget reductions, and discontinue the university’s baseball and men’s lacrosse squads.
Syracuse.com says that Tenaglia led Furman with 20 points in the recently halted campaign. Horan, as a junior, grabbed 15 ground balls and caused eight turnovers, according to Syracuse.com.
Syracuse lacrosse has bolstered its defense in part due to transfers.
With this duo of Furman teammates on board at the ‘Cuse, the Orange has now secured four transfers of late, three of whom are on the defensive side.
Besides Horan and Tenaglia, Utah defenseman Nick Hapney, a rising junior, has agreed to transfer to the ‘Cuse, per an article from Syracuse.com.
And defenseman Mitch Wykoff, who just wrapped up his senior year at Division III Gettysburg and will receive an extra stanza of eligibility from the NCAA, has decided to join the Orange.
These additional defenders will aid the ‘Cuse in offsetting the big losses of two-time All-American Nick Mellen, one of the country’s top cover defenders who recently signed a contract with the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse, and midfielder Jared Fernandez, who left the Hill for Johns Hopkins.
