Syracuse Basketball: Orange offers Arthur Kaluma, but competition intense
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball has entered the recruiting bout for 2021 four-star forward Arthur Kaluma, who is picking up some impressive offers.
Syracuse basketball recently offered a scholarship to 2021 four-star forward Arthur Kaluma, per a tweet from Jake Weingarten, the owner of Stockrisers.com.
Weingarten also detailed that the 6-foot-8 Kaluma, a rising senior who attends Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Ariz., has received other offers of late from Big 12 Conference powerhouse Kansas and Pac-12 Conference member Utah.
Any instance where the Jayhawks are involved means that the battle to land a prospect, in this case Kaluma, will prove extremely challenging.
Kaluma, who runs on the AAU circuit with Vegas Elite and is deemed a top-60 recruit nationally across the 2021 class, has landed numerous other offers, according to a review of various recruiting Web sites. Those offers include from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, St. John’s, UNLV and USC.
Kansas, which ended the 2019-20 campaign ranked No. 1 in both major polls, is certainly the most acclaimed of the bunch. But Texas Tech reached the 2019 March Madness title tilt, and Oklahoma State absolutely crushed the Orange during the past season.
From a position perspective, Kaluma is listed as either a power forward or a small forward. Currently, the ‘Cuse has a quartet of forwards on its roster, assuming redshirt junior Elijah Hughes stays in the NBA Draft, although three of those guys are underclassmen, and Marek Dolezaj is a rising senior.
Undoubtedly, Kaluma would prove a welcome addition in Central New York. Presently, he is rated No. 18 overall in the 2021 class by 247Sports, No. 36 by the 247Sports Composite, No. 37 by ESPN.com and No. 57 by Rivals.com.
Syracuse coaches have offered a handful of high-level prospects in the class of 2021, and it’s likely that they will pledge more scholarships to players in this class in the near future.
The Orange hasn’t yet secured a commitment in the 2021 class, which isn’t a big deal at this juncture, considering that members of this class are entering their senior year this fall.
Elite 2022 point guard Dior Johnson, a top-five talent in his class, has committed to the ‘Cuse. Hopefully, he will bring other studs with him.
A lot of Syracuse fans have complained about recruiting in recent terms, and some of their criticism is justified, but the outlook does look mostly bright on the Hill.
