Robert Braswell plans on returning to Syracuse basketball next season. Here are the details and what it means for the Orange.
Since the end of the 2019-20 Syracuse basketball season due to the novel coronavirus, the team has fallen apart at the seams.
Several players have entered the transfer portal including guards Jalen Carey, Howard Washington, Brycen Goodine, and Brendan Paul.
If that wasn’t enough, one player that was also rumored to be potentially moving on is forward Robert Braswell. Matthew Gutierrez of The Athletic was first on that report saying Braswell “was considering it.”
He all but confirmed that in a conversation with Mike Waters of Syracuse.com this week.
Braswell said transferring this offseason was “talked about” but it’s no longer something “he’s considering.”
This is wonderful news for the Orange.
Initially, before the season it didn’t appear there would be much roster turnover for Syracuse from 2019 to 2020. The Orange didn’t have a single senior on the roster last season (outside of Shaun Belbey).
Despite that optic, the roster has completely imploded.
Here are the players scheduled to return in 2020-21:
- John Bol Ajak
- Buddy Boeheim
- Marek Dolezaj
- Jesse Edwards
- Joe Girard III
- Quincy Guerrier
- Bourama Sidibe
- Elijah Hughes (to be determined)
Braswell provides perimeter shooting from the forward spot, intriguing defensive traits, and quite frankly a warm body on the roster that is overflowing with potential.
He missed the majority of the 2019-20 season due to a mysterious shin injury that caused him a great amount of pain. Robert ended up only playing in seven games this year.
Braswell has since been cleared to return to the court although his injury or source of pain was never determined. He can continue to work out on his own, although due to the novel coronavirus a return to the hardwood is an undetermined amount of time away.
