The annual Syracuse football Pro Day has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Here are all the details and what it all means.

The novel coronavirus outbreak continues to impact our daily lives and that has extended to the Syracuse football program.

On Friday afternoon the University sent out a press release stating that its’ annual Pro Day that was scheduled for Monday, March 23 has been postponed:

"“In accordance with the Atlantic Coast Conference and Syracuse Athletics’ decision to suspend all athletic activities until further notice, the Syracuse football program has postponed its Pro Day scheduled for Monday, March 23.The highest priority is the health and safety of the participants and all involved. Syracuse Athletics, in partnership with the University, continues to monitor and assess the latest information about COVID-19 (coronavirus) from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and New York state and Onondaga County health officials.”"

Every college football institution holds a Pro Day so its athletes can go through scripted workouts, informal/formal interviews with NFL teams, and of course more medical testing ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.

This year’s Pro Day is one of the most anticipated in recent memory due to the star power set to compete in it: Alton Robinson, Kendall Coleman, Trishton Jackson, Sterling Hofrichter, and Sean Riley among others.

Robinson, Coleman, Jackson, and Hofrichter were just at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis performing many of these same events in front of interested NFL teams.

Also in years past the Pro Day has allowed former alum to participate to increase their stock. Recently former Orange wide receiver and punt returner Brisly Estime came back to participate in the Pro Day.

While this novel coronavirus has certainly caused quite a ruckus in the sports world forcing the biggest events to cancel and postpone their events: The Masters, NCAA Tournament, conference tournaments, to name a few, this will eventually pass.

Out of all the possibilities, it’s actually super positive to hear that Syracuse is simply deciding to postpone its’ Pro Day in-lieu of simply canceling it or closing it off to the media. At this point, a date hasn’t been set, but the University will keep us posted on any future updates.

In addition to the Syracuse football Pro Day being postponed, the team’s annual Spring Football Showcase (which is currently scheduled for April 18) is up in the air. A decision for that event and “other Syracuse Athletics events not related to competition” haven’t been made at this point.
