Syracuse basketball exacts its revenge on Notre Dame with a huge road win. Here are all the details and what this means moving forward.

For the third time, this season Syracuse basketball has scratched a name off its list. Virginia, Virginia Tech, and now Notre Dame are teams that had previously beaten the Orange at home, but Syracuse returned the favor on the road in the rematch later in the season.

With this dub, the Orange remain perfect on the road in the conference at 4-0 and are now 5-3 overall in the ACC. This also puts Syracuse at 12-7 on the season. Here’s how they got there vs the Irish on Wednesday night.

First half

In the first matchup between Syracuse basketball and Notre Dame earlier this season it was a track meet. Ultimately the Irish walked away with the victory 88-87.

Heading into this rematch most thought that this would be a slower-paced game… WRONG!

Instead, we simply continued the track meet with both teams trading body blows and long scoring runs.

On the Orange side of things, Elijah Hughes contributed 15 points in the first stanza on 6-of-11 shooting. While Joe Girard III was also feeling it contributing 11 points of his own on 4-of-8 shooting. Both players also added in three triple tries each.

While for Notre Dame unsurprisingly John Mooney led the Irish in the scoring department dropping in 13 points. But he also got some balanced help from TJ Gibbs, Nate Laszewski, and Dane Goodwin who each contributed eight points apiece.

After a lull, Syracuse ended the half on an incredible 27-12 run to lead at the break.

Second half

The biggest surprise in the second half was Bourama Sidibe.

The problem with Sidibe throughout his career has been the injury bug. It has often robbed him of his strength and stability, but this season there were no excuses with him healthy.

We finally started to see the type of player that Syracuse was hoping he could develop into.

Sidibe tied his season-high in points (12) and really just contributed in a lot of different ways.

Although the Orange as a team got a bit too lackadaisical in the second half with such a large lead and allowed Notre Dame to fight its way back into the game. Fortunately, the Orange found a way to finish and come away with the win which is the most important thing.

Although things got pretty nerve-wracking in the final moments, especially considering what happened the last time these two teams faced off.
