We’re getting closer and closer to the Alliance of American Football postseason. Here’s how Week 7 looked for all the former Syracuse football players.
Amba Etta-Tawo, WR, Birmingham Iron
- There’s no other way to slice this, the Birmingham Iron are stone cold right now. They’ve lost three out of their last four games, the latest loss coming in a brutal overtime period to the Memphis Express: 31-25. Although the biggest story in the Alliance of American Football this week was Johnny Manziel making his AAF debut for the Express. While his appearance was short, it provides hope for a potential comeback for the former NFL and Texas A&M star.
- But in even bigger news Amba Etta-Tawo FINALLY made his comeback to an AAF football field and he did it in a big way. Etta-Tawo led the Iron in receiving with 71 yards from three receptions for an insane average of 23.7 per catch! Welcome back Amba!
Ervin Philips, WR, Atlanta Legends
- Another tough outing for the Atlanta Legends losing for the second straight week in embarrassing fashion, this time to the Orlando Apollos: 36-6. Atlanta played Orlando to kick off the AAF season and also lost, 40-6. Although Erv Philips did not play in this one due to injury.
Kevin Coyle, HC, Atlanta Legends
- The Atlanta Legends started off the AAF season horribly at 0-3. Then won two in a row and possibly set up a late-season surge. But the last two weeks have really put a dagger in the Legends playoff hopes with the team losing by a combined score of 73-12.
Andrew Tiller, OL, Orlando Apollos
- While seeing two former members of the Syracuse football squad falling is never fun, there was a silver lining. Andrew Tiller and the Orlando Apollos have punched their ticket to the AAF Eastern Conference championship game with their thumping of the Atlanta Legends.
- Tiller leads what many in the AAF are calling “an elite offensive line” in this inaugural Alliance of American Football season!
Jordan Martin, DB, San Diego Fleet
- Martin is one of the starting safeties for this Fleet secondary. While Jordan may find his way into an NFL training camp this Fall, his Fleet are going to need a miracle with three weeks to go to make the postseason in the AAF.
Dave Boller, GM, San Diego Fleet
- The San Diego Fleet have lost two straight, with their latest loss coming by way of the Arizona Hotshots, 32-15. This was a pivotal conference game which has certainly flipped the script on the season. Arizona now holds sole possession of second place in the Western Conference standings with only three weeks left in the regular season, while the Fleet are floundering in third.
Daryl ‘Moose’ Johnston, GM, San Antonio Commanders
- Who is the hottest team in the Alliance of American Football? RHETORICAL QUESTION FARLEY! The San Antonio Gosh Darn Commanders that’s who! ‘Moose’ has this team firing on all cylinders winners of four straight games. At the end of the game, the Salt Lake City Stallions scored a touchdown improving the score to 17-15. But the 2-point attempt was intercepted and converted into a McPick-2 for a 19-15 victory.
