Round of 32

  • No. 1 Gonzaga
  • No. 16  Praire View A&M/Fairleigh Dickinson

If Syracuse finds a way to survive their opening weekend game vs Baylor, they’ll have the pleasure to face the only No. 1 seed that isn’t from the ACC: Gonzaga. Or the Orange will be facing a 16 seed that they’d be heavily favored against.

While the chances of that are unlikely they’re possible and always have been. But the No. 1 seeds are even more aware than ever after what we witnessed last season when No. 1 Virginia became the poster child for history when No. 16 seed UMBC accomplished the first-ever upset of that magnitude.

But let’s just safely assume that won’t happen, which means Syracuse will get top-seeded Gonzaga. If the Orange could play any top seed of the four choices (Duke, Virginia, North Carolina, and Gonzaga), they’d probably choose the Zags.

Although Gonzaga is a No. 1 seed for a reason they’ve won 20 out of their last 21 games. The Zags have four double-digit scorers on the team and are one of the favorites to win the entire dance. It won’t be easy for the Orange to get past a No. 1 seed, but it’s necessary to reach the Final Four.
