Former Syracuse basketball star Demetris Nichols says shooting from beyond the arc will be the key for Boeheim’s Army in the TBT tournament.

While it may not be time for Syracuse basketball just yet, that doesn’t mean we can’t see former Orange stars playing hoops. Let me explain.

For those craving basketball in July, ‘TBT (The Basketball Tournament)‘ has your back! It’s a winner take all tournament with a cool $2 million cash prize for the victor. The TBT tournament is entering its’ ‘fifth season’.

Although the team you should be cheering for is ‘Boeheim’s Army’. They were the ‘Northeast Regional Champions’ last season and advanced all the way to the Final Four. We here at Inside the Loud House have actually done profiles on all the players on the ‘Boeheim’s Army’ roster, you can check those out below:

This squad has yet to win the title, but they may have a secret sauce.

That is Demetris Nichols who played for the team two summers ago, but is back and better than ever. Most Orange fans should remember Demetris because he joined Syracuse as a role player and left as a bonafide star.

Demetris played for the Orange from 2003-2007. Just missing the National Championship experience by a few months. On the afternoon radio show ‘Drive Time Sports’ Paul A. Esden Jr aka ‘Boy Green’ sat down with Demetris to talk about his international career, his three point shooting ability, and why Boeheim’s Army can win the whole thing this year.

The three point shooting really is the key. When you look back at the brief history of the ‘TBT’, the winners all had perimeter shooting. In the interview with Demetris Nichols above, he talked about the evolution of the game from slam dunks to three point shooting:

"“The three point shooting has essentially evolved from what was the slam dunks of the past. The three point shot is even more exciting than those dunks were. When you can shoot the ball you always have a chance. We’re going to try and get up as many threes as possible with Boeheim’s Army.”"

If Boeheim’s Army uses that resume and that killer roster, I don’t see how they don’t win this whole thing. Of course everything starts this Saturday for the squad (South Jamaica Kings and the Philadelphia Stars square off earlier in the day) and Boeheim’s Army will face the winner of that matchup at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN3.
