Syracuse Football: Michigan State transfer Trishton Jackson chooses SU

The Syracuse football squad got a huge boost with the addition of a former four star recruit. ITLH breaks down the huge get for the squad.
Syracuse football received word of a transfer who will be eligible to play in the 2019 season. Trishton Jackson, a West Bloomfield, Michigan native is now suiting up on the Syracuse sideline. Jackson was high school teammates at West Bloomfield High with Syracuse starting safety, Evan Foster.
As a prospect coming out of high school, Jackson was rated a four-star prospect and the 229th best player in the class of 2016, according to 247sports.com. Coming out of high school, Jackson had offers from the likes of Iowa, Pitt, in addition to Michigan State. Jackson did not have the most impressive offer sheet, but nonetheless appears to be a very solid prospect.
At Michigan State, Jackson did not set the world on fire in his two years, but was stuck behind a stable full of wide receivers, all of whom will return next year.
In four games this past season, all started, Jackson hauled in nine passes for 121 yards and one TD. Three of Jackson’s receptions went for 20+ yards and seven of them were good for first downs. He eventually lost the starting job to a true freshman, however I would take that with a grain of salt. Michigan State and Syracuse’s offensive schemes are completely different, and Jackson will likely excel as an outside receiver for the Orange. Jackson was also banged up last season and that could have contributed to him losing the starting gig.

Since Jackson played sparingly at Michigan State, let’s take a look at his high school highlights:
The initial play that I want to look at features Jackson as the receiver lined up at the bottom of the screen. On this play Jackson shows off his 6-foot 2 inch frame on the outside, he blows by the

coverage and although he doesn’t need to win a jump ball, he would have been in prime position to do so. Jackson is lengthy on the outside and when you combine that with his speed and elusiveness, he is a prime candidate to play receiver on the outside in the Dino Babers offense. We have seen Steve Ishmael and Amba Etta-Tawo excel on the outside in the past for Syracuse, and I think Jackson could do the same.
Woah…
The next play that I want to take a look at occurs at the 1:35 mark on the tape. Bloomfield calls a quick slant route to Jackson, but the throw is late. Despite that, the WR makes the adjustment, hauls in the ball and simultaneously zooms by an opposing linebacker, heading to the sideline.
This is where the play becomes impressive, Jackson is able to get the edge and absolutely dusts all but one opposing defender, who has no chance to tackle him in the open field, and he cruises in for a 92-yard touchdown. Jackson’s Hudl, lists his 40-yard dash time as a blazing 4.41, and that looks to be pretty accurate on that play.
At West Bloomfield, Jackson was used as a quarterback too, he ran the option. Many of the clips in this highlight film are of that, but all of them show off his speed and elusiveness in the open field. Clearly Jackson is tough to bring down in a one on one situation and it does appear that he has legit 4.4 40-yard dash speed.

I personally look at this commit as someone in the class of 2019, and a former 4-star receiver is certainly a nice way for Dino Babers and staff to start off that class.
