Inside The Loud House breaks down the coaching of Dino Babers now that the season is over for Syracuse Football.

Syracuse football is dependent on Dino Babers coaching a team the right way and making decisions that can win games.

Sometimes those decisions and risks don’t always pan out as we saw on multiple occasions this season. If we had taken a field goal there, or gone for the touchdown at that point in a game, or ran the ball on that play then that Orange may have won some more games this year.

In the end, the only thing that most Syracuse fans are going to see is the fact that we did not make a bowl game. Oh yeah and the fact that we had a another season of going 4-8.

Are you kidding me?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve liked Dino Babers offense as it is fast paced and puts up a ton of points in a hurry especially with Dungey at the helm.

However sometimes his play calls have been questionable. I like Dino Babers as a coach, the guys got heart, but honestly so far he doesn’t seem to know what it will take to turn Syracuse football around.

If Syracuse wants to play at a higher level and make a bowl game consistently, they’ve got to bring in the recruits and players that meet his system or at least can hold their own. Dino Babers has done a decent job of bringing a couple in, but he’s no Jimbo Fisher or Nick Saban. We knew that when we hired him, but Syracuse needs him to be something like that because they need to get back to what was good.

Syracuse Football still has a long ways to go and Babers has helped infuse this team with energy and excitement again, but if you keep finishing with losing records every year then that’s a problem.

Yeah I know people will say that this year’s schedule was much harder and that this record was to be expected, but Syracuse was playing dang good football for a while to start the season. At one

point I think we had a 70% chance of going to a bowl game. However, as a coach you got to be able to get your team to turn the page after a loss (Miami) instead of losing five straight games after the biggest win of the season. So as a result Babers in my book is going to get low grade.

Syracuse Football Report Card Grade: D-

I’m going to give Dino Babers a D minus for this year. You may think that that’s a bit harsh, but I don’t.

I’m giving him a just above failing grade because we still ended up with the same result as last year which is a losing record and no bowl game. Did we make progress on both offense and defense? Sure.

However, that still doesn’t make up for the fact that this team thinks small victories are good enough. That mentality comes from the coach. Small victories aren’t what this team needs. They need to win big at home and on the road and just be consistent. Syracuse did look the part a little bit in the early part of the season, but once late October/November rolled around it just vanished.

If Babers can find a way to change that next year I expect his grade will be much higher. If he has a similar result though I expect him to get the boot. I certainly hope that’s not the case because just like any other Syracuse football fan I’m sick of waiting. If another coach comes in the it’s going to be another two to three year wait for success.

However if next season turns out you can still expect me to still be rooting heavily for the Orange, whether Babers is the coach or not. At least my seat won’t be hot.
