Syracuse Football is looking for a big win this weekend over #2 Clemson. Inside The Loud House gives you some statistics which may leave you feeling optimistic.

The Syracuse Football season is like Christmas season for me. No matter the game, I want to see it or listen to it. I want to know all there is to know about each game. Naturally I come across some interesting tidbits in my travels across statistics and highlight videos from previous seasons.

I have always loved digging deeper for the hidden stats and such and this week I came across a bunch of interesting things. Hopefully they bring you hope and optimism heading into this whale of a matchup versus #2 Clemson.

Firstly, this game is on Friday Night. Upon review, the Orange have done really well on Friday nights in general. According to Cuse.com, the Orange have gone in 5-2 such games in the past five seasons (including this one) All of these were also at home except the bowl game versus Minnesota in 2013-2014 season, which the Orange won I might add. Just some food for thought.

The last loss was the one last year against what was an unstoppable Louisville team and star quarterback Lamar Jackson on his way to a Heisman Trophy year. So permission to throw that out the window…. The other loss was also to Louisville in 2014 in which the Orange was in it most of the game but failed to score time and time again.

The rest of the wins, outside the bowl game, were against mediocre or cruddy teams which the Orange were expected to win. Still let’s look at the numbers. In the seven Friday night games in the last five years, the Orange have outscored their opponents 212-147. That is a margin of 65 points! Now only one of those teams was ranked and that was Louisville last year, but hey, the stats don’t lie! Like I said, we’re trying to stay optimistic here.

Secondly, the last time the Orange had Clemson in the Dome was in 2015, and it was a closer game than the Tigers liked. The game finished 37-27 in favor of Clemson, according to Cuse.com. That game Syracuse Football played without star quarterback Eric Dungey who was knocked out for the season the game before at Louisville.

Then last year, Syracuse had Dungey playing, but only for a short time. It only took 12 minutes for Clemson to knock the quarterback out of the game. Sure, Dungey brought it upon himself, sort of, by sliding after a run, but the two defensive players hitting him square on both sides of his head looked almost planned. No targeting was called though, because of course…. So there went the Orange’s chances.

The Orange would go onto to lose 54-0. So yeah. It just makes you wonder what if, because it was only 10-0 at the time, but hey, I’m just speculating and being optimistic here.

Lastly, the Carrier Dome will be rocking and should be pretty full Friday night. The last two times the Orange hosted the Tigers in the Carrier Dome, the attendances were 48,961 in 2013, and 36,736 in 2015. The Tigers contingent always seems to travel well and being ranked highly helps a lot too. That’s not even mentioning the fact that Clemson is chasing another national title after defeating Alabama last year in the title game. So people will come for no other reason as well than to see a contender for the College Football Playoff.

Also, if you’re an SU student, the Student Association is handing out 1,000 free tickets to students on the quad on Friday to come to the game, according to the Daily Orange. So the student section may even be packed for once! The team needs their support big time if they want any chance in this one. Maybe they can drown out the visitors fans? Who knows?

Either way, expect a huge turnout on Friday for this one. The Loud House will be LOUDDDDDDDDD!!!!! That’s always a good thing for the Orange. When it’s loud, it’s a huge home-field advantage as teams can’t call or hear plays called at the line of scrimmage. Maybe, just maybe, that could be enough for an upset. Unlikely, but hey, at least I’m hopeful.
