The Syracuse football program is being helped by some key spotlights. ITLH breaks down how this could change the future of recruiting with Orange.

I’m a huge Syracuse football fan. Ever since I moved to the area back in 2008 everything intrigued me:

  • Weather
  • History
  • Traditions

There are so many pros, but not many feel the same way I do. That’s the difficulty of recruiting in the North East. It’s not a hot bed of recruiting talent like Florida, Texas, and California.

Literally every year four and five star recruits are there for the picking down South. So typically the Orange are forced to pluck two and three star guys and develop them into better prospects.

Although a recent trend could help the Orange launch into a new stratosphere as far as recruiting is concerned.

One of SU’s most prized recruits is four-star offensive lineman prospect, Tyrone Sampson. He intends to sign early to the Orange, so nothing to worry about Cuse fans. But he’s been invited to participate in the annual Army All-American Bowl.

So we have a hard commit who is highly touted who could help spread the message at a major televised event? That’s a major win for the Orange.

But oh wait there’s more…

Do you guys remember the Elite 11 camp for another prominent SU hard commit in Tommy DeVito? Well here’s a fun fact from the NFL Network Twitter account, look at all the talented passers who’ve made an appearance in the past at the camp.

Not only did DeVito make an appearance but he came away from the camp nearly winning the whole darn thing. To highlight, he finished in the final Elite 11 grouping and made the seven-on-seven final in The Opening as well.

Not to quote Drake in a Syracuse article, but he started from the bottom now he was here. According to people who were at the Elite 11 camp, DeVito struggled early and that’s not a knock on DeVito, there was a ton of talented passers there.

After struggling early in the game so to speak, he picked it up with the two minute drill to win the game. This is exactly the sort of pub that SU needs to scratch and claw back to relevancy in college football. With the current state of the program, the Orange are going to have to get creative to get new and talented recruits in the building.

Another cause helping them is Dino Babers and his Orange is the New Fast moniker. Amba Etta-Tawo made the NFL because of Babers and his system. Steve Ishmael and Erv Philips will likely end up in the NFL because they’re putting up video game numbers under Babers. Getting guys to the NFL is one of the best recruiting tools you can possess.
