An interesting move by Nike has raised a hypothetical question for the Syracuse football fan base. Here’s the simple question, what jersey would you buy?

I’m not John Quiones from ABC’s What Would You Do? But I’ll give you my best impersonation. A Syracuse football hypothetical to get your brain working.

We’re closing in on the season and we’ll have plenty to talk about on the field, so lets continue to frolic off of it. Actually a better comparison to a contemporary show would be, The F Word with Gordon Ramsay.

If you haven’t seen the show it’s this reality cooking show that is broadcast live on Fox where two teams of families compete against each other cooking the same dish. The twist is simple: Would the patrons of this restaurant pay for their meal?

Somehow relating one of my favorite weekly shows to ITLH, I now throw it to you with slightly less of a British accent, what jersey would you purchase?

Now the immiedate obvious answers that come to mind are all fair game: Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little, or even Donovan McNabb. But I want to take this into a different direction.

Fun names or fan favorite players. So lets take a look at some of the names I’d buy.

Van Chew No. 82 WR (2008-2011)

I hope a lot of Syracuse football fans remember this gem. If you graced the Carrier Dome over those years, a fan section in the upper deck was named ‘The Chew Crew’. The reason why I bring up Chew isn’t necessarily because of his statistical prowess, although he had some great moments in Orange, it was because of the name.

If I was going to buy a jersey, it’s going to be a guy with a great name. I might even go ‘Chew Crew’ on the back nameplate. Plus jerseys are great conversation starters.

Ryan Nassib No. 12 QB (2008-2011)

This was actually a fan pick, The Score 1260’s Mike Lindsley suggested Nassib be on this list. While the name is kind of basic, nothing too crazy, he’s the only Orange quarterback in the NFL today and that means something.

Nassib, currently playing for the New Orleans Saints is vying for the backup job. He spent the previous four years of his career as the backup to Eli Manning. Smart kid. Likeable guy, got to talk to him a few times. I’d throw my money down on repping SU in the NFL.

Amba Etta-Tawo No. 7 (2016)

Is this prisoner of the moment? Perhaps. But this guy went from a relative unknown at Maryland to being a local legend in Syracuse. In his lone season in Orange he had the greatest single season in franchise history at the wide receiver position.

Perhaps more importantly he’s got one of the craziest names in sports history. So looking at Orange history, sure the big names are enticing, but my the No. 1 name on my list was a drive by. What’s your opinion Orange Nation? Did we miss someone on the list? Share your best choices in the comments on social media!
