The Syracuse football team is looking to replace the void left by Amba Etta-Tawo. Can Anthony Queeley be the guy?

Dino Babers and the Syracuse coaching staff picked up its ninth commitment in the class of 2018 on Sunday night. Wide Receiver Anthony Queeley, from Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida has announced his commitment to Syracuse. Queeley was in Syracuse this past weekend for the Dino Babers football camp.

The 6-foot 2 inch 200-pound receiver also had offers from the likes of Duke, UCF, Virginia Tech, among others. Although Queeley is not rated by 247sports.com, most other sites list him as a three star prospect and his offer list would certainly indicate that.

According to the Orlando Sentinel Queeley felt ‘Cuse was the right fit:

"“Starting with academics and athletics. I feel like Syracuse can provide the best of both worlds for me and I felt like it was the best fit for me.”"

Queeley is just another solid recruit for the Orange in the already solid class of 2018. Credit to Coach Babers and his staff for getting some high profile recruits on board. Queeley becomes the first outside receiver to commit, while Cooper Lutz is committed as an inside receiver. This past season, Queeley caught 76 passes for 1,063 yards and seven TD’s in the high-flying Lake Nona offense.

Let’s look at the tape:

The first play I want to look at occurs at the :16 mark. Queeley is split out in a four receiver set to the left of the Quarterback. He runs about a 10-yard “go” route and goes up and high points the ball. One thing you’ll notice throughout the tape is that Queeley uses his 6-foot 2 frame well to go up and get the football. After high pointing the ball on this play he drags two defenders to the end zone for a touchdown.

The next play I want to look at occurs at the 1:13 mark. Queeley uses his tremendous speed to cut

through the defense on a nice post route. Not only does Queeley burn the cornerback, but the DB has safety help over the top and Queeley still burns the safety. He makes a nice over the shoulder catch to complete the 40-yard pass play.

More analysis…

At the 2:02 mark, Queeley shows off his great foot work and route running. He is matched-up one-on-one with the DB and he absolutely burns him at the line of scrimmage. Once Queeley puts on this impressive move its lights out and he has a walk in touchdown after catching the pass.

While on the final play I want to look at occurs at the 2:37 mark. Queeley is lined up in the middle of a trips left formation. Once the ball is snapped Queeley sets up to receive a screen pass and does a nice job of letting his blockers get out and disguises the play.

This particular screen is called a “tunnel screen”. We saw guys like Ervin Phillips and Amba Etta-Tawo make a living off of these last season. After Queeley allows the blockers to get out in front of him, and once he is in the open field there is no catching him. He hauls in the screen pass and takes in to the house for a 60-yard TD.

Congrats to Anthony and welcome to Syracuse!
