Syracuse Lacrosse beat long-time rival Johns Hopkins 8-7 On the Road. Inside the Loud House recaps the tightly contested game.

Syracuse Lacrosse responded from a tightly contested game again St. Johns last week, but it didn’t show up on the scoreboard against #14 ranked Johns Hopkins. Confused? It’s because the effort showed up on defense as the Orange forced several missed shots and turnovers down the stretch to give themselves a chance. One of those crucial turnovers by the Blue Jays led to a score to send it to overtime. Once there, the Orange won the faceoff, and soon after, the game.

Both teams started slow, only scoring 4 points combined before halftime according to John Hopkins Athletic site. Syracuse scored only one in the first, while Hopkins scored two making the score 2-1 after one period of play. The Orange would respond with a goal and solid defense in the second period holding the Blue Jays scoreless. The score by Sergio Salcido would tie the game at 2-2 going into halftime. However, the Orange came up wheeling and dealing to start the second half.

Second Half:

Nick Mariano would start the scoring in the third for the Orange with an assist by Sergio Salcido with 13:24 to play. Three minutes later, Nate Solomon would follow with a goal of his own stretching the Orange lead to two. The game started to look over from there, but it wasn’t. The Orange With 10:10 left to play in the third quarter, led 5-2. By the time, the period would end, it would be a one score ball game.

Johns Hopkins would respond causing several turnovers which helped give them extra possessions and get them back into the game. The Blue Jays went on a 2-0 run to end the third with scores by Wilkins Dismuke and Robert Kuhn. To end the third , the score was 5-4 in favor of the Orange, but all the momentum was going Johns Hopkins way.

Syracuse and John’s Hopkins would both score early in the fourth. Syracuse Midfielder Paolo Ciferri, with an assist from goalie Evan Malloy, scored quickly to put the Orange back up two to play at 6-4. However, Kyle Marr got a goal off an assist from Shack Stanwick with 11:50 to play to answer, making it 6-5.

Alex Concannon would keep the run going for the Blue Jays, scoring with 6:06 to play tying the game at six apiece. The Orange who did well on faceoffs all game, would miss the one after and Kuhn would make the Orange pay for his second of the day. That goal put the Blue Jays ahead 7-6 with 5:56 to play in the fourth.

A Classic Ending Fitting of Two Rivals:

The Orange would take awhile to answer, but would luckily find a way to get things done just in the nick of time. The Blue Jays almost went ahead two with a minute or so to play, but the goal that was scored was waved off​ due to a crease violation. That decision gave the Orange new life and the possession.

The Orange would tie the game at seven apiece with a Mariano goal with 33.4 seconds to play. That score would ultimately send the game to overtime.

Overtime:

The Orange would win the opening faceoff to start overtime. Coach John Desko would call timeout to talk things over. After​ the timeout the Orange would work the ball around until they found Brendan Bomberry for the score inside for the sudden victory. The final score was 8-7 Syracuse in overtime.
