Syracuse Women’s Basketball finally found out their postseason spot. They will be playing in NCAA Tournament. Inside the Loud House looks into Syracuse’s spot and chances.

Syracuse Women’s Basketball was selected as an 8 seed in the Bridgeport region of the Women’s NCAA Tournament Bracket and will face 9 Seed Iowa State. To those who follow Inside the Loud House, this is a lower projected seed than I or other analysts were projecting.

In my article yesterday morning, I projected the Orange would fall between a 4-6 seed and that 7 would be a little low. Turns out, not really. The Orange turned out to be an 8 seed, which is low considering the Orange were just ranked 21 in the AP Poll today. An 8 seed seems to suggest that the SU women’s team were more of a low-30’s ranked team, which I find sort of odd. Here’s three things to note about Syracuse’s spot and chances:

More from Syracuse Basketball

1) The Selection Committee Did Syracuse No Favors

In addition to having Syracuse play in what is normally the tossup 8-9 game, the winner will probably take on #1 seed Uconn, who is undefeated in its last 107 games. So no pressure. It looks like the committee wanted to make sure the Orange would not advance and make a mockery of the tournament by beating the favorites like last season.

2) National Championship Game Revenge is Possible

For those who remember last year’s magical run, this Syracuse Women’s Basketball team made it all the way to the National Championship game versus Uconn. If the Orange beat the Cyclones, they would probably play the Huskies in the next round. That means they would have a chance to break the streak and get revenge for their loss in the national title to them last year. Hate me if you like, but I hope we get the chance and break the record streak. They are our former rivals after all.

3) Syracuse’s Opening Round Matchup is Against an Unfamiliar Opponent.

You don’t see Syracuse play early too often, but Syracuse’s opening round matchup with Iowa State is at 1:30pm on Saturday. The game will be show on ESPN2. The Orange don’t play Iowa State ordinarily as they are in the Big 12 Conference. So expect a lot of mistakes early in this one as both teams try to figure the other out.

I think the Orange have a great chance to beat the Cyclones in the opening round matchup. However, the UConn game waiting in the next round makes you not want to look any further down the bracket. Let’s hope for a miracle in that second game, and then we can discuss the possibilities after that.
