After a long wait, Howard Washington, a PG in the 2017 class, finally got a scholarship from his “dream school.” Inside The Loud House takes a look at his talent and and other recruits for Syracuse Basketball’s radar for next year.

Even as the Syracuse Basketball squad awaits its post-season fate – the Big Dance or the NIT – on Sunday evening, head coach Jim Boeheim and his staff are turning toward the 2017-18 stanza.

More from basketball recruiting

After much speculation, the Orange has offered a scholarship to 2017 point/combo guard Howard Washington, according to articles published on Saturday by Syracuse.com and Zagsblog.com.

We’ve documented in depth how the ‘Cuse is clearly in need of guards for next year’s roster, given that sophomore Frank Howard would represent the sole lead guard. News of Washington landing an offer is, therefore, encouraging.

Washington attends Athlete Institute Prep in Mono, Ontario along with 2017 four-star forward Oshae Brissett, who has already committed to Syracuse Basketball. Washington and Brissett attended Syracuse’s buzzer-beating triumph over then-No. 10 Duke at the Carrier Dome not too long ago, as well as the ‘Cuse’s home crushing of Boston College in mid-January.

In a recent Syracuse.com report, Washington said that SU has “been my dream school since I was really young.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he had previously served in the 2016 class, committing to Butler. However, he reneged on that commitment and then reclassified to 2017.

ESPN.com slots Washington as a four-star prospect, giving him a grade of 80. Scout.com labels him a three-star recruit. Washington is also rated three stars by 247Sports and ranked No. 17 at the combo-guard position.

According to various recruiting Web sites, he holds offers from a handful of other schools.

Look, I get that Washington isn’t as highly ranked as former ‘Cuse targets such as Quade Green. But Washington is probably a three- or four-year player, and, similar to current SU freshman Matthew Moyer, he bleeds Orange. I want guys like this.

Chances are good that Washington ends up in Central New York, although nothing is a given. Besides Brissett, Syracuse Basketball has locked up four-star power forward/center Bourama Sidibe.

In terms of other 2017 prospects, the ‘Cuse has reportedly taken an interest in three-star combo guard Chris Duarte, who visited the SU campus on Jan. 7 when the Orange squeezed Pittsburgh.

Additionally, 2018 four-star point guard Eric Ayala has received an offer from Syracuse, and he’s debating whether to reclassify to 2017.

Let’s hope that one, if not more, of these recruits sign on to suit up for Boeheim in his final term at the ‘Cuse’s helm.
