Some juicy Syracuse basketball recruiting news here, as Cole Swider names his final eight and Sid Wilson eyes the 2017 class.

As the Syracuse basketball squad awaits the decisions of four-star prospects Eric Ayala and Jordan Tucker, we have other recruiting nuggets to report.

Cole Swider, a four-star forward in the 2018 class, announced via Twitter his eight finalists. The Orange, thankfully, made the cut. The others are Creighton, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Providence, Villanova and Xavier.

Head coach Jim Boeheim and his staff offered a scholarship to the 6-7 Swider back in February. He attends the St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, R.I.

Swider ranks 98th nationally at 247Sports, and 23rd at the small-forward position. Over at ESPN.com, he receives a grade of 85 and is placed 22nd at the power-forward position. Scout.com, meanwhile, slots him 26th at power forward.

Another ‘Cuse target, four-star small forward Sid Wilson, said on Twitter that he will graduate from the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., as a member of the 2017 class.

However, the 6-7 Wilson did say in his tweet that he may do a post-graduate year at Brewster and reclassify back to 2018.

According to 247Sports, Wilson holds offers from more than a dozen programs. Adam Zagoria of

Zagsblog reported this week “that four schools are working the hardest: Texas, Maryland, Florida and Syracuse.”

Of SU, the Bronx, N.Y., native commented to Zagoria: “Hometown favorite school. Me and coach Red [Autry] have a good relationship, I’ve known him since the eighth grade.”

Recruiting Update?

Wilson is 78th overall at 247Sports, and 19th at his position. ESPN.com gives him a grade of 86, and puts Wilson 23rd at this position. Scout.com doles out the highest ranking, at 50th nationally, and 14th at small forward. All of these ratings, to date, are for the 2018 class.

Boeheim & Co. have a slew of scholarship offers out there to 2018 prospects. But, as we all know, the majority of them will head somewhere besides Central New York. So it’s encouraging to see Swider keeping the ‘Cuse in consideration.

While for Wilson, this is an interesting development. It seems pretty clear that the Orange is prioritizing Tucker, who is reportedly down to Georgia Tech and Syracuse. He may reveal his choice in the coming days.

While SU is also hoping that Ayala will reclassify from 2018 to next season’s class. Should the Ayala and Tucker situations not pan out in the ‘Cuse’s favor, though, perhaps we can land Wilson for the 2017-18 campaign. The bottom line is that any of them would prove a strong addition to Syracuse’s three-member 2017 class!
