Two famous comedians, one with 'Cuse ties, went toe to toe with Syracuse basketball

Okay, the headline is a bit of a joke. Pun intended.

Apparently, famous comedians Adam Sandler and Kevin James, who are good friends and have worked together on movies, were on the Hill on Wednesday, according to X posts. Full disclosure: Sandler and James are two of my all-time favorite comedic actors. I've watched Sandler's movies countless times, and I was a huge fan of "The King of Queens."

Per the Syracuse Athletics X account, Sandler played in a pickup game with Syracuse men's and women's basketball. He also posed for photos with the players and some coaches. Syracuse men's basketball assistant coach Daniel Engelstad also posted photos on X with Sandler and James.

How fun. On Tuesday night, Sandler did one of his comedy shows in Albany, N.Y., at the MVP Arena. On Wednesday evening, he was scheduled to appear at The Oncenter in Syracuse. These shows are part of his "You’re My Best Friend" tour. Besides James, per social media, other famous comedians joining in the fun with Sandler included Kevin Nealon, another one of my all-time favs.

Syracuse University should give Adam Sandler an honorary doctorate, right?

I admit this column is venturing away from Syracuse Orange sports a smidge, but I just think this is so cool about Sandler and his friends. It's so tough to say which Sandler movie I like the best, but it's hard to deny the appeal of "Big Daddy" in 1999.

Sandler's Sonny Koufax attended Syracuse University in that movie, and he rocked 'Cuse gear on several occasions in it. That was great publicity for my alma mater!

Also in Albany, per reports, Sandler and James were spotted at Motor Oil Coffee, according to social media posts, including one that read: "We’re honored to have these legends stop by and support our local, family-owned shop."

All kidding aside, who won the pick-up game on Wednesday? I assume guys such as William Kyle III and Donnie Freeman dunked all over Sandler and James. Kiyan Anthony and Nate Kingz were draining 3-pointers, while point guard Naithan George was dishing out sick dimes.

I'll have to see if I can get an official box score from the Syracuse basketball media relations department. Wink, wink.
