Syracuse women's basketball has its second game of the young 2026-27 season on Sunday afternoon against a Central New York neighbor. The Orange will welcome nearby Cornell to the JMA Wireless Dome on November 8, with the tip-off scheduled for noon EST.
The ACC Network Extra will provide live-streaming coverage of this non-conference clash between two teams that are about a 60-mile drive from each other. In their all-time series, according to SU Athletics, the 'Cuse is 18-3 against the Big Red. SU has won nine straight in the series.
The last time they met, Syracuse women's basketball defeated Cornell at home in the 2023-24 campaign by a final score of 78-71.
To date in the 2026-27 season, Syracuse women's basketball is 1-0 overall. The Big Red is 1-1 overall. Cornell lost big on the road to No. 2 UConn. In the Big Red's second game, the Ivy League school easily beat SUNY Fredonia, 106-37, in Ithaca, N.Y.
Syracuse women's basketball will host a local opponent on Sunday afternoon.
Last month, the Orange faced Connecticut in an exhibition at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. SU hung tough with the mighty Huskies, but Syracuse women's basketball ultimately lost, 88-60.
Cornell was projected to finish No. 6 in the Ivy League, according to the conference's preseason poll. In 2025-26, the Big Red went 9-18 overall and 4-10 in Ivy League games.
The 'Cuse looked terrific in its 2026-27 season opener. This past Tuesday evening at the Dome, Syracuse women's basketball was relentless with its defense in crushing Metro Conference member Sacred Heart, 75-48.
The Orange has a lot of new players in the current campaign, including college transfers, overseas prospects and a pair of incoming freshmen from New York state. SU went 24-9 overall overall in 2025-26 and reached the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
On Tuesday night, Syracuse women's basketball held Sacred Heart to 27 percent from the field, 32 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free-throw line. While the 'Cuse didn't shoot well from the field either, Syracuse was phenomenal on the defensive side.
The Orange forced the Pioneers into 29 turnovers. That helped give Syracuse women's basketball a 33-14 edge in points off turnovers. SU also held large advantages in total rebounds, bench points, paint points, fast-break points, steals and assists.
'Cuse sophomore center Uche Izoje, the ACC's rookie of the year last season, is expected to contend for All-America honors in 2026-27. While she didn't shoot great in the season opener, and she had a bunch of turnovers, the 6-foot-3 Izoje finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Izoje is on the preseason All-ACC team. She's also on the preseason watch lists for the 2026-27 Naismith Trophy national player of the year honor and the Lisa Leslie Award, which every season honors the top center in Division I women's college hoops.
So who on the SU roster impressed in the Orange's first game of the 2026-27 campaign? Several players shined, including junior guard Emely Rodriguez, senior forward Sarah Rambus, fifth-year guard Tyi Skinner and senior forward Jaleesa Molina.
