Last weekend, during the live period on the AAU circuits, the Syracuse basketball staff watched 2027 four-star wing Declan Griffiths, who is a fast-rising prospect in the high school junior class, according to recruiting analysts.

The 6-foot-7 Griffiths, who has excellent positional size for a wing, is a strong shooter from beyond the arc, scouts say. He's the younger brother of Temple rising senior guard Gavin Griffiths, who was a four-star prospect in the 2023 class and a former Orange recruiting target.

Declan Griffiths, within the 2027 class, is No. 117 nationally, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Over at Rivals, he is No. 74 around the country. Experts anticipate that Griffiths will continue to climb in the national rankings amid his solid performances in grassroots hoops so far this spring.

Griffiths' full scholarship offer sheet includes schools such as Northwestern, Boston College, Temple, Albany, Bryant, Harvard, Yale and La Salle. According to 247Sports, Griffiths is interested in visiting Marquette and Northwestern.

Syracuse basketball has some level of interest in 2027 4-star wing Declan Griffiths.

This spring and summer on the AAU circuits, Griffiths is competing for the 17U team of the Boston-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association ("UAA") league. Through two spring sessions, the Middlesex Magic is 7-1 overall.

In late April, the UAA was in Kansas City, Kan. Griffiths averaged 10.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, and he was named to the All-Breakout team for that first UAA session, according to the scouting experts at The Circuit.

Last weekend, amid the NCAA-permitted evaluation period, the UAA circuit was in the Cincinnati area. Per data on the UAA Web site, Griffiths averaged 10.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest.

Griffiths had been playing for the Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Conn. In mid-April, word broke that he would transfer to The Newman School in Boston. Newman had a tremendous 2025-26 stanza, going 38–3 overall and claiming the New England Basketball League ("NEBL") title, the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council ("NEPSAC") Class AAA crown and, in mid-March, the national prep championship.

I'll keep tabs on Griffiths' recruitment moving forward, including whether the new Syracuse basketball staff, led by first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, ultimately offers a scholarship to the talented 2027 four-star wing.
