This round of Syracuse Orange sports news begins with hoops on the women's side.

Syracuse women's basketball unofficially kicks off its 2024-25 season with an exhibition against Division II Daemen University on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange and the Wildcats are scheduled to tip off on the Hill beginning at 7 pm, with live-streaming coverage on the ACC Network Extra.

In 2023-24, Syracuse basketball went 24-8 overall and 13-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the 'Cuse won a game in this past spring's NCAA Tournament. Daemen, which is located in Amherst, N.Y., is a member of the East Coast Conference.

Last season, the Wildcats went 23-8 overall and 13-3 in conference competition. They advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA's Division II Championship a term ago.

When the ACC released its preseason poll for the 2024-25 campaign in mid-October, Syracuse basketball was forecast to finish at No. 11 in the league standings.

Syracuse field hockey picks up a top-10 win
This past Sunday afternoon, the 'Cuse defeated No. 8 UConn on the road, 3-1. Per SU Athletics, this outcome marked the Orange's fifth top-20 victory during the 2024 regular season. Up next, Syracuse field hockey (12-4, 4-3 in the ACC) will host Boston College in the regular-season finale.

The match is scheduled to begin at 4 pm on Friday, Nov. 1, with coverage on the ACC Network Extra. After this league clash, the Orange will honor its seniors and graduate students with a ceremony at Coyne Stadium.

Syracuse volleyball outlasts ACC foe in five sets
On Sunday, at home, the Orange held on to beat Virginia Tech in five sets after losing the opening set and trailing 2-1 before emerging victorious in the final two sets to ultimately prevail. This was the first league triumph for the 'Cuse (13-9, 1-9 in the ACC).

Up next, Syracuse volleyball hits the road for a pair of matches. The Orange will face N.C. State on November 1 at 7 pm and then head to Wake Forest on November 3 at 1 pm. The ACC Network Extra will stream both matches.

Syracuse women's tennis shines at event
Over the weekend, the Orange fared quite well at the Big Red Invite in Ithaca, N.Y. The 'Cuse went a perfect 12-0 in singles matches and 4-2 in doubles matches. Up next, Syracuse women's tennis will compete at the UB Indoor Invite in Buffalo, N.Y., from November 1 to November 3.

Syracuse women's ice hockey falls to BU
On Saturday, the Orange fought tough against Boston University but lost at home, 3-2. Up next, the 'Cuse (2-7-0) will commence Atlantic Hockey America action when Syracuse travels to No. 12 Penn State on Thursday, Oct. 31, with the puck drop scheduled for 6 pm.
