In this latest dose of Syracuse Orange sports news, we start with a national issue that will affect 'Cuse programs and their peers around the country.
In recent months, the NCAA and its major conferences have worked to forge an agreement to settle various antitrust legal cases at the federal level. As part of that settlement, in the future, teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference and elsewhere will be able to directly pay players for the first time in the history of collegiate athletics.
Not too long ago, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported that in the first year of revenue-sharing with athletes, the 2025-26 sports season, "schools are to operate under a *projected* cap of $20.5 million." Dellenger cited a memo that he obtained for this $20.5 million figure.
In his recent post on X, Dellenger also wrote in this thread, "Schools are permitted to distribute the $20.5 million to their athletes however they see fit, but many plan to use the House settlement back-damage formula for the distribution: 90%+ to football & men’s basketball."
I get why a lot of this revenue-sharing is expected to go to football and men's basketball, but I sincerely hope that the Syracuse Orange and its peers direct revenue to other sports as well.
