While the current Syracuse football team got the monkey off its back this weekend, it was something of a light week for former Orange players in the NFL. Players like Oronde Gadsden and LeQuint Allen had their bye weeks, while Zaire Franklin missed Green Bay’s game due to injury. However, many of the remaining former Syracuse players who got on the field in Week 7 found a way to make an impact.
Kevin Jobity, Steelers
We have to start with an NFL debut for a former Syracuse player. Jobity was active for the first time this season during Pittsburgh’s win over the Saints in Paris on Sunday. Jobity has made a strong impression on special teams with the Steelers and also recorded a tackle for loss in his NFL debut.
Sean Tucker, Buccaneers
The Buccaneers scored a blowout win over the Panthers on Sunday, with Tucker playing a key role. Midway through the fourth quarter, Tucker took a carry 46 yards to the end zone, extending Tampa’s lead in a 43-13 victory. Tucker has been banged up recently, but he finished the game with seven carries for 52 yards.

Riley Dixon, Buccaneers
In Tampa’s lopsided win, Dixon was only needed twice. One of his punts ended up being a touchback, but the other he pinned inside the 20-yard line.
Ifeatu Melifonwu, Buccaneers
The Tampa defense had a good day, with Melifonwu being one of the more reliable players. Still filling in for the injured Antoine Winfield as the starting free safety, Melifonwu totaled five tackles against the Panthers.
Andre Szmyt, Browns
This never gets old, does it? Smyzt made a game-winning field goal on the final play of the game for the second straight week. It’s actually the third time in the last four weeks he’s made a game-winning field goal in the final minute, helping catapult the Browns to 5-2 on the season. While Szmyt did miss a field goal earlier in the game, he came through with the game on the line, while also making all three of his PATs.

Alijah Clark, Cowboys
In a high-scoring Monday night game between the Cowboys and Eagles, there were a lot of tackles that needed to be made, and Clark was responsible for plenty of them. He finished the game with five tackles, which tied for third most on the Dallas defense, and one defended pass. One week after being inactive, Clark saw plenty of action on defense, not just playing special teams, and he took advantage of his opportunity.
Justin Barron, Cowboys
The reviews for Barron’s Monday night performance weren’t quite as good as they were for Clark, but he did see plenty of the field as well. Barron finished the Cowboys' 38-21 win over the Eagles with three tackles, a new career high.
