In a game where Syracuse football racked up more than 600 total yards on offense, junior wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr. was clearly one of the Orange's offensive stars.

He hauled in six catches for 152 yards and two receiving touchdowns. All in the first half. And one of his TD scores was named on Saturday morning as the No. 1 play during ESPN's SportsCenter top 10, which is well-deserved and awesome.

The 'Cuse, on Friday night, pummeled nearby Colgate, 66-24, in a non-conference contest where Syracuse football demonstrated its potentially high-powered offense. The Orange's defense, though, still has work to do.

Gill had touchdown catches of 43 yards and 35 yards. Late in the first quarter, redshirt junior quarterback Steve Angeli heaved a pass down the sideline to Gill, and the Colgate defensive back was in good coverage. However, Gill displayed his athleticism in out-jumping the Raiders DB, catching the ball out of the air, and then heading into the end zone.

Syracuse football wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr. had a coming-out party on Friday evening.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Gill, who hails from Atascocita, Texas, is one of the Orange's starting wide receivers in the current 2025 season. The 'Cuse (2-1), which will travel to No. 12 Clemson next Saturday afternoon, saw numerous of its receivers from 2024 graduate, head to the NFL or hit the transfer portal.

Still, in 2025, the team's wide-receivers' room is fairly well stacked, and Gill is an important piece. In fact, of the Orange's returnees, he had the most production a season ago. In 2024, when Syracuse football went 10-3 overall, Gill caught 31 passes for 570 yards and two touchdowns.

Fast-forward to 2025, and through three games, he has 12 receptions for 269 yards and two scores through the air. According to ESPN statistics, Gill leads the 'Cuse in receiving yards to date in 2025, and he's tied for second in catches.

He's also averaging a whopping 22.4 yards per reception. That's huge. To reiterate, Syracuse football has a good receiving corps. Gill could end up leading the pack when all is said and done, especially if he has more performances like he did versus Colgate.
