Before joining Syracuse football as its head coach, Fran Brown was most recently the defensive backs coach at Southeastern Conference powerhouse Georgia. Brown and his Orange staff are trying to flip a talented high school sophomore who is verbally committed to the Bulldogs.

In recent days, per his X page, the 'Cuse offered a scholarship to 2028 four-star tight end/linebacker Asa Wall, who had a tremendous 2025 season for the John Milledge Academy in Milledgeville, Ga. Last October, the 6-foot-3, 239-pound Wall verbally pledged to Georgia.

However, his recruiting process could have a way to go. Since the beginning of 2026, Wall has picked up newer scholarship offers from teams such as Syracuse football, Florida International, Florida and SMU. His full offer sheet also includes Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, according to his bio on 247Sports.

The John Milledge Academy went 12-1 overall this past season and won the Georgia Independent Athletic Association ("GIAA") Class AAA state championship.

As a sophomore, Wall rushed for 656 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. He hauled in 944 receiving yards and 10 scores through the air. That translates to 1,600 total yards and 25 total touchdowns on offense.

On defense, Wall tallied 54 solo tackles, 96 total tackles, 12.0 tackles for a loss, 5.0 sacks, two quarterback hurries and two pass breakups. Among the honors that he scored for his brilliant 2025 campaign were GIAA Class AAA state co-player of the year, the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association ("GACA") All-State team and the GACA/GIAA All-State offensive player of the year.

Within the 2028 class, the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking places Wall at No. 218 overall, No. 9 at tight end and No. 24 in Georgia. Rivals, meanwhile, has him at No. 98 nationally, No. 5 at tight end and No. 14 in Georgia.

To date, the Orange staff has one verbal pledge in its 2028 class. Last October, the 'Cuse secured a verbal commitment from sophomore offensive tackle Omari Lawson out of the Zarephath Academy in Jacksonville, Fla.
