Syracuse football coaches want to flip an Alabama verbal commit in the 2027 class.

In recent days, per his X page, the Orange offered a scholarship to Nash Johnson lll from Georgia, who is a high-three-star cornerback in the junior class. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Johnson verbally pledged to the Crimson Tide, which is currently in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal round, this past October.

While Johnson's commitment to the powerhouse Southeastern Conference school appears to be extremely solid, 2027 high school football prospects can't officially sign with college programs until late in 2026, so we'll see if the 'Cuse staff can make inroads with Johnson.

Johnson is a standout at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga. In the 2025 season, McEachern went 10-1 overall. As a junior, Johnson was named to Georgia's All-Region 3-6A first team on defense.

According to recruiting services, Johnson's full offer sheet, besides the Crimson Tide and the Orange, includes schools such as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Oregon State, South Florida, Charlotte, Tulane, Penn State and Oregon.

Regarding the 'Cuse recruitment of Johnson, Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown is a former defensive backs coach at SEC juggernaut Georgia. The Orange also has a new defensive backs coach in former Toledo cornerbacks coach Perry Eliano.

Within the 2027 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite places Johnson at No. 535 overall, No. 53 at cornerback and No. 58 in Georgia. Over at the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, he is No. 497 nationally, No. 46 at cornerback and No. 56 in Georgia.

To date, the Syracuse football staff has secured at least eight verbal pledges among high school juniors, which is among the highest amounts around the country at this juncture. The 247Sports Composite has the Orange's 2027 class at No. 6 nationwide.

The 'Cuse 2027 cycle features seven players who are rated three stars, while athlete Tristin Hughes from Ohio is a four-star prospect.
