Syracuse football hits the road on Thursday night, as the Orange looks to rebound from a tough loss last weekend when it faces longtime foe Pittsburgh in an Atlantic Coast Conference clash.
The 'Cuse (1-1) fell flat in a 21-18 setback at home this past Saturday to California, in a game that Syracuse football should have won. Now the Orange is set to embark on an extensive road tour, as Syracuse football doesn't play again at the JMA Wireless Dome until October 17 against No. 23 Louisville.
Pittsburgh enters Thursday evening's battle at 2-0, although the Panthers' most recent victory, a 12-7 home win over UCF, wasn't overly impressive. Still, Pitt has owned the 'Cuse of late, going 8-2 in the last 10 encounters.
Syracuse football and Pittsburgh are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 pm EST on September 17 from Acrisure Stadium, with television coverage on ESPN. The broadcast team is play-by-play announcer Matt Barrie, analyst Chase Daniel and sideline reporter Paul Carcaterra, who is an SU alum.

At the time of this writing, FanDuel had the Panthers as a 9.5-point betting favorite, with the over/under set at 51.5 points.
In SU's availability report submitted to the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday evening, listed as out are defensive back Tedarius Hughes, linebacker Maurice Medley, offensive lineman Jackson Iak, offensive lineman D'Joni Scatliffe, wide receiver Nate Edwards and wide receiver Terrell Wilfong.
Listed as doubtful is wide receiver Calvin Russell III, while running back Tylik Hill is questionable. However, Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown said via his weekly radio show on Tuesday night that he anticipates Russell will be medically cleared for the Orange's October 3 game at non-conference foe Connecticut. Brown added that Hill, who hasn't practiced so far this week, isn't expected to play at Pitt.
Per SU Athletics, the Panthers are SU's most common foe. In their all-time series that dates back to 1916, Pittsburgh leads the Orange, 45-33-3. If the 'Cuse can spring a triumph on Thursday, it would snap Syracuse football's 11-game losing streak at Acrisure Stadium.
SU has won its first true road contest of the season for five consecutive campaigns: Ohio in 2021, UConn in 2022, Purdue in 2023, UNLV in 2024 and Clemson in 2025. Hopefully, the Orange can keep that streak alive at Pitt.
