Last weekend, Syracuse football landed a five-star prospect. And the Orange staff is going to eye more five-star players moving forward, particularly given the buzz around the program.

To that end, on Friday, the 'Cuse offered a scholarship to 2027 five-star defensive back/athlete Josh Dobson, a standout from South Carolina. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Dobson, a rising junior at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, S.C., disclosed his Orange offer via his X page.

Congrats to Josh!

Dobson, within the 2027 cycle, is ranked as high as No. 5 nationally by On3/Rivals. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3/Rivals Industry Ranking place him at No. 6 overall, No. 2 at cornerback and No. 1 in South Carolina.

Syracuse football is in pursuit of a 2027 five-star prospect.

According to 247Sports, Dobson holds nearly 30 scholarship offers from schools such as Alabama, Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Louisville, N.C. State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Virginia Tech, among others.

In the 2024 season, as a sophomore at Catawba Ridge, he tallied 48 total tackles, one tackle for a lass, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups, per his bio on MaxPreps. As a freshman, Dobson had 24 total tackles, three interceptions and six pass breakups.

To date, Syracuse football has verbal commitments from four 2027 prospects, all of whom are rated three stars. This 'Cuse cycle is rated No. 4 nationally by the 247Sports Composite.

The Orange's 2027 pledges are defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery of Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia, athlete Tank White of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., quarterback Justin Dixon of the Concordia Preparatory School in Towson, Md., and defensive back Travis Miles out of Hillside High School in Hillside, N.J.

Last weekend, Syracuse football, led by ace recruiter and head coach Fran Brown, stunned the college football world when it scored a commitment from 2026 five-star wide receiver and top-25 national prospect Calvin Russell lll of Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Russell will also play for Syracuse basketball. Some chatter in recent days centers on how the 'Cuse securing a pledge from Russell has put the nation on notice, and it could prove a springboard to Syracuse football ultimately landing more five-star prospects.

I'm glad to see the Orange making a run at Dobson.
