Through three weeks of the young 2025 season, Syracuse football quarterback Steve Angeli leads the country in total passing yards, according to the NCAA's Web site.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pound redshirt junior, out of Westfield, N.J., is completing 64.0 percent of his passes for 1,072 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He also has a rushing score.
By the way, if you include his time at Notre Dame before he transferred to the Orange, Angeli has completed 67.3 percent of his passes for a combined 1,844 yards with 18 touchdowns and just three picks. That's solid.

Now, the 2025 campaign is only three weeks old. Syracuse football will travel to an angry Clemson bunch on Saturday afternoon. Let's see how Angeli fares in the coming weeks as the competition intensifies.
Still, it's encouraging how well Syracuse football QB Steve Angeli has played.
Most 'Cuse fans didn't likely have Angeli leading the country in passing yards through week three on their bingo card. Sure, he needs to keep improving and, in some cases, make better decisions and get the ball out quicker.
But when Angeli has a clean pocket and time to throw, the dude can sling it. He reminds me, in some ways, of former Syracuse football star quarterback Kyle McCord, who, in 2024 as a senior, set numerous Atlantic Coast Conference and Orange program records. McCord, also a New Jersey native, is now on the practice squad of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.
Entering week four, Angeli leads the nation in total passing yards. He's also No. 1 overall in passing yards per game, at 357.33. He's in a tie for No. 5 at 26.67 completions per contest. Angeli's eight passing touchdowns are tied for No. 14 overall. He's averaging 13.40 yards per completed pass, which is No. 26.
Angeli is also spreading the ball around nicely to his wide receivers and tight ends. Seven different Orange players have caught at least seven passes to date in the 2025 campaign. Redshirt senior Dan Villari leads the team with 16 receptions. Junior Darrell Gill Jr. has the most receiving yards, at 269. Senior Justus Ross-Simmons leads Syracuse football in receiving touchdowns, with three.
To reiterate, the 2025 regular season is only one-quarter complete. I'm not suggesting Angeli will lead the country in total passing yards when all is said and done. Then again, maybe he will. Either way, one can't help but feel pleased with how Angeli is performing thus far.
