Former Syracuse football record-setting quarterback Kyle McCord is headed back to the "City of Brotherly Love," and I absolutely love it.

On Saturday at the 2025 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound McCord was selected a bit lower than some pre-draft prognostications, but in any event, the Philadelphia Eagles picked him in the sixth round, at No. 181 overall.

A huge congrats to Kyle!

The Eagles, in the most recent NFL season, went 18-3 overall and won the Super Bowl, beating the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 40-22 to capture the ultimate NFL prize.

Now, Philadelphia has a terrific starting quarterback in Jalen Hurts, who is one of the league's best signal-callers. The Eagles also have several other backup quarterbacks, although based on a few media reports I came across on Saturday in the early evening, McCord should have a legit opportunity to compete for the primary backup spot behind Hurts, who I should note does like to run a decent amount and that could potentially make him more prone to getting injured.

Former Syracuse football QB Kyle McCord will learn from one of the greats in Philadelphia's Jalen Hurts.

McCord transferred to the Hill from Ohio State after he went 11-1 with the Buckeyes as a junior. He wasn't guaranteed to be Ohio State's starter in the 2024 stanza, so he hit the transfer portal and ended up with the Orange.

McCord is from Mount Laurel, N.J. Numerous Syracuse football staff members, including head coach Fran Brown, also hail from New Jersey, and McCord has known Brown and several other 'Cuse assistants for quite some time.

This past term, McCord was electric. He was instrumental in the Orange going 10-3 overall, winning its bowl game and finishing at No. 20 in the final Associated Press top-25 poll. Individually speaking, he set a bunch of Atlantic Coast Conference and Syracuse football program records as McCord threw for 4,779 yards and 34 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

As a prep recruit, he held an offer from the Orange. In the 2021 class, he arrived as five stars, No. 28 overall, No. 6 at quarterback and No. 2 in Pennsylvania by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He was a standout at the St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia.

So McCord has gone from Philly to Columbus, Ohio, to Syracuse and now back to Philly. It remains to be seen if he ends up getting any snaps for the Eagles, but 'Cuse Nation is rooting for Kyle to have an absolutely beautiful NFL career.
