The transfer portal doesn't open until Friday, but some Syracuse football players have ideas on which college transfers the Orange staff should pursue.
The portal will be open from January 2 to January 16. The 'Cuse has a sizable 2026 prep class, but it has also seen at least 25 players from its 2025 roster reveal plans to enter the transfer portal. So Syracuse football coaches will be active in the portal market, and one position to monitor is wide receiver.
As I noted earlier on Tuesday, starting wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr., a junior, is among at least four wide receivers who plan to depart the Hill. Yes, the Orange has a cadre of talented wideouts in its 2026 high school cycle, led by five-star Calvin Russell III and four-star Amare Gough.
Still, keep an eye on two transfer wide receivers from the Sunshine State.
Syracuse football freshmen hope to see the Orange make a run at transfer WRs from Florida.
According to emoji-related posts on X in recent days, it seems that 'Cuse freshman defensive back/wide receiver Demetres Samuel Jr. and freshman wide receiver Darius Johnson, who both played for high school programs in Florida, want Syracuse football to land Naeshaun Montgomery and Jayvan Boggs.

Montgomery, a freshman wide receiver with the Florida Gators, and Boggs, a freshman wideout at Florida State, both plan to enter the portal. Both played high school football in the Sunshine State. And, as I've discussed many times lately, the Orange staff is recruiting the state of Florida extremely hard these days, led by head coach Fran Brown and general manager Tommy Caporale.
In the 2025 season, the 6-foot-1, 189-pound Montgomery appeared in four games for the Gators, catching three passes for 26 yards. In transfer rankings from the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, he is three stars, No. 129 overall and No. 27 at wide receiver.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound Boggs played in eight games for the Seminoles, collecting nine passes for 103 yards and one score through the air. At the time of this writing, in the transfer rankings from the On3 Industry Ranking, Boggs was listed as four stars, No. 53 overall and No. 13 at wide receiver.

As a prep recruit in the 2025 class, Montgomery was a four-star, top-200 national prospect out of Miami Central High School. Per 247Sports, he held a scholarship offer from Syracuse football while in high school.
Boggs, in 2025, was also a four-star, top-200 overall player, according to several recruiting services. He attended Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla. It doesn't appear that he had an offer from the 'Cuse while in high school.
