Syracuse football is among numerous schools to extend a scholarship offer in recent days to Sascha Garcia, a talented defensive back from William & Mary who is in the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Garcia said via his X page on December 24 that he had entered the portal, with three years of collegiate eligibility left.

As a redshirt freshman with Coastal Athletic Association ("CAA") member William & Mary during the 2024 season, Garcia tallied 19 total tackles, 14 solo tackles, 11 pass breakups and one blocked field goal.

Per William & Mary, which is located in Williamsburg, Va., Garcia emerged as a starter for the Tribe midway through the 2024 campaign, and his 11 passes defended was tied for third in the CAA. In 2024, William & Mary went 7-5 overall.

On December 10, Garcia received inclusion on this season's FCS Football Central freshman All-America team, which is a tremendous honor for him. He was one of 69 players selected as a freshman All-American at the Football Championship Subdivision ("FCS") level.

Syracuse football has gotten into the mix for FCS freshman All-American Sascha Garcia.

On December 30, Garcia revealed on his X page a scholarship offer from the Orange staff, which is lead by head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, who in the recently completed term guided the 'Cuse to a 10-3 record and a likely top-20 national ranking once the final College Football Playoff top 25 is disclosed.

According to his X account, other college squads to have offered Garcia of late include West Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Cinncinati, Western Kentucky, Maryland, East Carolina, Utah State, Sacramento State, UMass and Akron.

As a member of the 2023 recruiting cycle at the prep level, Garcia attended Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Md., which is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.

Regarding the Orange's secondary for the upcoming 2025 season, seniors Clarence Lewis and Alijah Clark have exhausted their collegiate eligibility. Others, such as redshirt junior Duce Chestnut, redshirt sophomore Jalil Martin, junior Devin Grant, redshirt junior Berry Buxton III and freshman Davien Kerr, among others, are expected to return.

Those 2024 defensive backs for Syracuse football who have hit the transfer portal include freshman Marcellus Barnes Jr., redshirt sophomore Jaeden Gould (committed to UCF) and redshirt sophomore Jayden Bellamy (also headed to UCF).

Within the Orange's large 2025 recruiting class at the high school level, the 'Cuse has several commits who suit up at defensive back, and the headliner here is four-star Demetres Samuel Jr., a top-150 national prospect in this cycle who stars for Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla.
