Tight end Tayvion Galloway, a former Syracuse football recruiting target who has played his freshman season at Big Ten Conference member Purdue, says via his X page that he will enter the transfer portal on December 9.
On December 1, Purdue's athletics department announced that it was firing Boilermakers head coach Ryan Walters. The program mightily struggled in the 2024 season, going just 1-11 overall.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Galloway, who hails from Chillicothe, Ohio, is already receiving interest from a variety of college teams, including the Orange, according to a post on X from 247Sports analyst Mike McAllister and an article from his colleague, 247Sports analyst Allen Trieu.
Per his bio on the Purdue athletics department Web site, Galloway didn't play in any games this term, so he should still have four years of collegiate eligibility left.
Syracuse football appears to have an interest in Purdue tight end Tayvion Galloway.
Before joining the Boilermakers, Galloway was a standout at Pickerington High School Central in Pickerington, Ohio. While in high school, according to recruiting services, he landed more than 30 offers.
Per 247Sports, the 'Cuse offered Galloway a scholarship in June of 2023, and he also took an official visit to the Orange that same month.
Within the 2024 cycle, he was rated four stars by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. His highest rankings in this class came via ESPN, which had Galloway at No. 250 overall, No. 4 at tight end and No. 11 in Ohio within the 2024 cycle.
Now, Galloway's offer from the 'Cuse transpired when Dino Babers was still the head coach of the Orange, although it seems that the new Syracuse football staff, led by first-year head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, might be getting into the mix for Galloway as he officially enters the portal soon.
Just for a bit of context, tight ends on the Orange's 2024 roster include senior Maximilian Mang, freshman Jamie Tremble, redshirt junior Oronde Gadsden II, freshman Elijah Washington-Baker, sophomore David Clement and redshirt junior Dan Villari.
In the 'Cuse 2025 class, three-star Daunte Bacheyie and three-star Wyatt Bowman both play tight end, among other positions. High school seniors can start officially signing with their respective college programs on December 4, when the early signing period for 2025 prospects commences.
Brown and his top-flight staff, ahead of the early signing period, currently have the most 2025 verbal pledges nationwide.
