Earlier this week, Syracuse football scored a verbal pledge from a 2026 three-star quarterback. Now, the Orange has made the top four of a 2026 four-star quarterback who received a 'Cuse scholarship offer more than a year ago.

On Wednesday, per a post on X from On3 national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, Derek Zammit from New Jersey revealed a top four of Syracuse football, Alabama, Mississippi State and Washington.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Zammit has visited the Hill in the past, according to recruiting services, and some media reports indicate he may potentially take another visit to the Orange in the coming days.

Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff offered Zammit on February 20, 2024. Per recruiting Web sites, he holds more than 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs.

Syracuse football remains in the hunt for 2026 four-star QB Derek Zammit.

Zammit is a standout at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J. As we've noted many times, several 'Cuse coaches, including Brown, hail from New Jersey, and the Garden State is a heavy recruiting focus for the Orange.

As a junior in the 2024 campaign, according to his X account, Zammit threw for 2,582 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air. He also rushed for 560 yards and six more scores on the ground.

In the 2026 class, multiple recruiting services place Zammit in the top 250 nationally, the top 20 at quarterback and within the top five in New Jersey.

Earlier this week, 2026 three-star quarterback Zaid Lott announced on social media that he was flipping his verbal commitment from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school North Carolina to the 'Cuse.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Lott recently visited the Orange, around which time he landed a scholarship offer from Syracuse football before giving a verbal pledge to the 'Cuse. That development represented the first quarterback to commit to Syracuse football in its 2026 class.

Lott stars for the Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C., and in the 2024 term, he threw for 2,869 yards and 29 touchdowns, against just six interceptions.

When I wrote this column, the Orange had secured at least 12 verbal commitments among high school juniors. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite currently ranks the 'Cuse 2026 class at No. 13 around the country.
