Syracuse Football: I'm beyond tired of College GameDay gushing over the SEC, Big Ten

It's widely known that Syracuse football is one of only several power-four conference schools that has yet to see ESPN's widely popular program, College GameDay, visit its campus.

And that won't transpire during the 2024 season. Per a post on X, in week 14, College GameDay will be in attendance this coming Saturday night as Texas A&M hosts in-state rival Texas in a Southeastern Conference showdown.

This past Saturday afternoon, the Orange defeated non-conference foe UConn at the JMA Wireless Dome, on senior day, by seven points. After that 'Cuse win, first-year head coach Fran Brown made his pitch for College GameDay to head to the Hill on November 30, when Syracuse football (8-3, 4-3 in the ACC) will host top-10 Miami in the 2024 regular-season finale for the Orange.

"There will be no better place to be next week. I can’t wait for those guys to hopefully accept the challenge," Brown said, per a piece by Brent Axe of Syracuse.com.

I'm a total homer, seeing as I graduated from Syracuse University and also am the editor of a 'Cuse sports fan site. At the same time, I do love College GameDay and have watched that program religiously for years.

Syracuse football won't have College GameDay in Central New York during the 2024 season.

I readily acknowledge that the Big Ten Conference and the SEC are the two premier leagues in college football. There's no denying that. But the way that College GameDay gushes over the Big Ten and the SEC is annoying to me as well.

Take a look at this article on ESPN's Web site, which lists where College GameDay has transpired throughout the course of the 2024 campaign. It is heavily dominated by the Big Ten and the SEC.

Now, I get the allure of College GameDay traveling to College Station, Texas, this Saturday evening. The collision between Texas A&M and Texas has implications for the SEC championship game, and the Longhorns are a top-five group.

However, the match-up between Syracuse football and the Hurricanes has similar themes. If Miami wins on Saturday, the Hurricanes will play in the ACC title contest against SMU. By extension, if the Orange prevails, the 'Cuse has a chance to knock Miami out of the ACC championship encounter.

Plus, the records of the teams in these two games are identical. Texas and the Hurricanes are both 10-1 overall and highly ranked in the College Football Playoff top-25 rankings. The Orange and Texas A&M are each 8-3 overall.

What's more, the ACC clash between Miami and Syracuse football features two of the top quarterbacks in the country. Cam Ward of the Hurricanes is in the running for the Heisman Trophy, while the Orange's Kyle McCord has set 'Cuse program records in his senior year with the program after transferring to Syracuse football from Ohio State.

Additionally, Brown and his top-flight staff have done a wonderful job re-energizing the Orange squad and its fan base. Syracuse football is going to a bowl game for the third straight season. On Saturday, after beating the Huskies, the 'Cuse earned an eighth win in a regular season for only the third time since 2000, with the other two instances being the 2001 and 2018 stanzas, per SU Athletics.

There are just a ton of exciting, fun storylines in this affair between Syracuse football and Miami, who are also former Big East Conference rivals as well.

Respectfully, I find it lazy and predictable that College GameDay will be in College Station this coming weekend. Brown, a first-year and a first-time head coach at the collegiate level, along with his assistants, the players and the fans deserve better.

College GameDay should be on the SU campus this Saturday as Syracuse football takes on Miami.
