Saturday's home game against Clemson is the most important contest of the 2026 campaign for Syracuse football. Why? The Orange has turned its season around with two straight wins. The 'Cuse beat North Carolina on the road by one point in overtime. Then, last Saturday at home, SU stunned then-No. 19 SMU by three points.
Those two results have given Syracuse new life in 2026. The Orange needs two more triumphs to attain bowl eligibility for the second year in head coach Fran Brown's three seasons at SU's helm. With a conquest of the Tigers, Syracuse football would have to feel really good about its chances of getting to a bowl game.
The Orange (4-4 overall, 2-4 in ACC) will travel to N.C. State and Boston College after the 'Cuse hosts Clemson. All three of those Atlantic Coast Conference encounters are extremely winnable games for Syracuse football. SU closes out its 2026 regular season on the Hill against Notre Dame, which is No. 11 in the first set of College Football Playoff top-25 rankings.
Candidly, even the Fighting Irish appear beatable. Notre Dame hasn't played an overly tough schedule so far, although the Fighting Irish has a big-time opportunity to solidify its position in the 12-team CFP if it can upset No. 1 Miami on Saturday evening at home.
How to watch Syracuse football against Clemson on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Tigers and the Orange are scheduled to kick off at noon EST on Saturday, Nov. 7. ESPN2 will provide television coverage of this conference clash. At the time of this writing, FanDuel had Clemson as a 2.5-point betting favorite, with the over/under set at 49.5 points.
Several years ago, the Tigers, under long-time head coach Dabo Swinney, were among the top teams in college football. Clemson won two College Football Playoff national championships. In 2025, though, the Tigers went 7–6 overall and 4–4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

In the current campaign, Clemson (5-3 overall, 3-2 in ACC) hasn't been all that great. The Tigers have gotten blown out by the two ranked foes thus far on their schedule (LSU and Miami). They fell by four points to Virginia Tech, which is 6-2 overall this season. Clemson did beat North Carolina by eight points.
Most recently, on the road, the Tigers took care of business against Florida State in Tallahassee. That outcome ultimately led to FSU officials firing former head coach Mike Norvell.
In their all-time series together, per SU Athletics, Syracuse football is just 3-10 against Clemson. However, since the Orange joined the ACC in the 2013-14 sports season, five of SU's losses to the Tigers have come by 10 points or fewer.
Let's not forget that the 'Cuse moved to 3-1 in 2025 after beating Clemson on the road, 34-21. Unfortunately, that was also the game in which starting quarterback Steve Angeli suffered a season-ending injury, and SU's campaign went downhill after that.
Plus, in October 2017, Syracuse football upset No. 2 Clemson, 27-24, at the Dome. That, to me, is one of the biggest wins in Orange program history. So the 'Cuse has at least a small "track record" of beating the Tigers, or at least being competitive.
In 2026, Clemson has a relatively anemic offense but a good defense. The Tigers' offensive efficiency in the ACC is dead last, while their defensive efficiency is No. 2 in the league. Syracuse football is riding some momentum and can keep that going even more with a victory on Saturday afternoon in Central New York.
