I'm highly confident that Syracuse football is going to prevail in its upcoming bowl game later this month.
And if the Orange does win, first-year head coach Fran Brown is in store for a treat. Well, maybe not for him, but certainly for the 'Cuse fan base.
On December 27, the Orange will play in the post-season for the third straight year when the No. 21 'Cuse (9-3 overall) battle Pac-12 Conference member Washington State (8-4 overall) at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
Syracuse football is seeking its first 10-victory campaign since 2018. Should the Orange conquer the Cougars, Brown will have Eggnog dumped on him. Fun.
Per a press release this week, 2024 will be the Holiday Bowl's second-annual celebratory "Eggnog dump" on the winning coach.
Head coach Fran Brown could get a bit gooey if Syracuse football wins its bowl game.
Now, I assume much of the 'Cuse fan base is familiar with the viral slogan, "winners get washed," that refers to Brown allowing himself to take a shower before returning to work only when Syracuse football secures a triumph.
Thankfully, if Brown does get Eggnog dumped on him, that means the Orange won the Holiday Bowl, and he can shower shortly thereafter. Otherwise, that could get a tad sticky for our beloved head coach.
A few days ago, the Holiday Bowl announced that famed competitive eater Joey Chestnut will serve as the bowl's "Chief Eggnog Official" and oversee the Eggnog dump on the winning head coach. Sounds appropriate to me.
Chestnut, who is a 16-time champion of the annual hot dog eating contest on July 4, will also serve as the Grand Marshal of the iconic Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl parade.
"Joey Chestnut’s last name in itself is the perfect tie-in to the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl. He is known for his amazing competitive eating, and he trains for these titles like a world-class athlete," said Mark Neville, the CEO of the Holiday Bowl, in the recent media statement.
I look forward to Chestnut overseeing the dumping of Eggnog on Coach Brown after Syracuse football takes down Washington State. After the game, can we get players from both teams to go toe to toe with Chestnut in some sort of eating competition?
I welcome ideas from my fellow 'Cuse fans about which food, or foods, should be included in this potential competition.
